For Better or For Worse?

Hello everybody!

Right then. Nearly footy time again.

Was just wondering where we stand at the moment compared to last season.

The departure of Pilks/Pelts/and loanees Afobe/Kilbane and (at the moment) Johnson has obviously seen a talent drain on the club. Do the incoming players as it stands make up for this loss or do we still need more to compare/improve on last season where we ultimatley failed.

Remember this is as it stands at the moment -disregarding Pilks injury and any possible further transfers in or out (may not happen even if we do want a prolific proven striker).

I think we are perhaps about on a par - no doubt a couple of the signings have been very good - Mcdermott and Ward stand out and I hope Gobern/Miller can do the bis. This strengthening of the midfield could be key.

So at the moment my vote is a neutral (perhaps slightly worse off due to striker situation with Afobe gone) but with a hope that we will be better off by the start of the season with the purchase of a striker with the money we have made in the summer. Who that striker is I don't know.

What y'all reckon?

Hydy,

Sounds like you are one of the PC brigade spawned by the Blairites who deems it's not politically correct to use the word soccer any longer.

What's wrong with calling football soccer?? - I've used it for more years than I care to remember, going back to the days when such as you were only a figment of your dads imagination.

Have you never heard of Soccer Special, Soccer Sixes, Soccer am or the Socceroos?, and even Wiki says "Association Football commonly known as Football, or Soccer"

If you tell someone to fetch you a soccer ball they'll always come back with a football, but ask them to fetch a football and they are just as likely to come back with a Rugby ball.

So whether it upsets you or not, I will continue to call it Soccer, which most of my generation still call it.

Anyhow, I can't wait for the new Soccer season to start - how about you?

Mirf, it just annoys me that's all,my dad is probably your generation (60,just a guess) he never calls it soccer. As for soccer am that just sounds better than football am.

Back in your black and white era you probably wore shorts and long socks during the day time and got an orange and some nuts for Christmas,do you still?

Hydy,

Yes, yes, yes and I still wear a Liberty Bodice in winter and have a daily spoonful of Cod Liver Oil and a plate full of Tripe and Onions once a week.

Mirf, anyone that has any sense, any credibility and any self respect would NEVER call football soccer. "Yuk"

Its got nothing to do with your genearation, it's just you.

In the circles that I frequent everyone would think I'd lost my marbles if I called it soccer and no-one would stop laughing for a week.

Get a grip of yourself man. Are you cracking up?

You'll be going around calling yourself "Izzy Ennigood" next.
