Massive blow to England! Surprising that he retires altogether to be honest!

I'm not at all surprised.
As soon as I heard he was resigning I had an inkling he was going to call it day. Rightly so.
He knows his game better than anyone and he knew father time had caught him up. The captaincy has prolonged his career if anything.
I said after the Philander dismissal at Lords in the 2nd innings when he played no shot to a straight one that time was up. Eyes are going. Think he knew as well.
Best of luck.

hahaha, smith makes another England captain resign. What a legend he is. I guess the saffers will be having a party tonight, not for the win yesterday, but for smith doing a hattrick.
tbh I can see where strauss is coming from. Inside he knows leading england in India will be a tough ask. His batting is probably the main reoson for his decision. Very clever decision imo. If England lose the test series in India, they could end up being at no.5 which would mean they will have to climb a very long ladder.

I think it is a very smart decision by Strauss. He could foresee where this team is going and wanted to get out of it at an opportune time. As Viru said, England after India will be Number 5 and strauss can now duck from being made responsible for that debacle.
Happy retirement Struassy..
