me too...england...fair enough....once he stood down as capt...he probably figured he wldnt get in anyhow on his batting alone.....
but good luck too him....done sooooo much for the english game/team....
enjoy your retirement skipper.
Surprised about the retirement, must have something else lined up,probably in the media, good luck too the man.
ps Smith yet again proves the death knell for an England Captain.
Seems to be a trend for England skippers like Atherton, Hussain and Vaughen who when they retire from England before they hit the mid 30s they retire from the game. The above did mind you have a lucrative TV/Radio contract waiting for them when they retired but i'm not sure who will take Strauss?
Good luck to Struass . One of Englands best skipper ever.

You can see Smith having a private chuckle about this.
He'll be slotted into the TMS team in no time
Who's going to be captain now? Cook?
Yes Cook but who will open? For me promote Trott to open and put Bell at 3?
I hope captaincy doesn't effect his batting.
I'm not at all surprised.
As soon as I heard he was resigning I had an inkling he was going to call it day. Rightly so.
He knows his game better than anyone and he knew father time had caught him up. The captaincy has prolonged his career if anything.
I said after the Philander dismissal at Lords in the 2nd innings when he played no shot to a straight one that time was up. Eyes are going. Think he knew as well.
Best of luck.
I guess he won't be the first Captain Cook to go to Australia..........
Chunders
OP - did you not see that there was already an article on this ?
hahaha, smith makes another England captain resign. What a legend he is. I guess the saffers will be having a party tonight, not for the win yesterday, but for smith doing a hattrick.
tbh I can see where strauss is coming from. Inside he knows leading england in India will be a tough ask. His batting is probably the main reoson for his decision. Very clever decision imo. If England lose the test series in India, they could end up being at no.5 which would mean they will have to climb a very long ladder.
and he told me that i had a chance to go right to the very top of the company
I think it is a very smart decision by Strauss. He could foresee where this team is going and wanted to get out of it at an opportune time. As Viru said, England after India will be Number 5 and strauss can now duck from being made responsible for that debacle.
Happy retirement Struassy..
