I've written several articles about all top sides in England with varying content (on bbc 606) looking for the input of others.

Today I wrote about Liverpool.

Instead of attempting an analysis of my mentality which is clearly beyond your limited understanding, why not stick to the topic or ignore it.

It's not beyond my understanding. I would have thought that my thorough and accurate appraisal indicated this.

The fact you seem unable to take this on board may show that it is beyond your, however.

People need to remember that a certain Mr Ian Rush joined Liverpool from Chester FC, a team in the then 3rd Division and I seem to recall that he was to go on and have a rather successful career. The fact that Andy Carroll had a good season with Newcastle in the Championship last year clearly highlighted his potential and, hopefully in a team with better players, better delivery and service (which Kenny's other signings will provide), this potential should enable him to build on that potential.

would that be Carroll who scored 2 more league goals then Rooney last season?

I understand that Carroll is great in the air and that Downing is a great crosser of the ball.

At Anfield with the crowd behind the team, pressing the ball, getting the ball in the box from wide areas and getting runners from midfield should be enough to produce a very strong home record.

However Liverpool's problems lie away from home where I believe they lost at least 10 times last season and such a simplistic style of football without that extra push from the crowd won't turn those games around IMO.

Whenever i saw Liverpool perform effectively away from home last season, it had alot to do with the passing and movement of the team (at Fulham, Wolves and Sunderland) and though width is an important dimension to have, I think Liverpool would have been better off spending that 75m on players of greater technical quality.

To be fair that is a good shout. I think he is just trying to add options to the squad.

We could quite easily play 4-4-2, 4-5-1 or 4-3-3 and all with different types of players in those positions.

I actually think Carrol is a technically good player. His movement is not bad and neither is his touch. He knows when to hold it up and when to turn.

Downing likewise is technically gifted or he would not be able to play across the middle and on both wings in a season where he was voted player of the year.

I'd like to see a bit of pace myself and a player with some technique in the Silva, Scholes, Nasri, mOdric mould but we do haev Joe Cole!

Just thought i'd remind you that, we don't care, all this wummery just shows thast people are fearing Liverpool as a force to reconed with.

How about confirming how many of them were for liverpool.

Also over all comps what was the tally , Im only saying as rooney plays in the biggest fooballing tournement in the world.

If anything has been achieved with these signings it's adaptability and I won't even attempt to deny it.

Liverpool can play virtually any system, a Nani type right-sided play would probably seal it.

With regards to downing he has an excellent left foot but for me he lacks the vision and quick thinking to really add to Liverpool in a creative regard.

Carroll can certainly hold the ball up or run at defenders when he has space but he's a little like Hernandez in the sense that they give the ball to team-mates to make something happen, they don't get involved in quick combinations and tend to only be effective within their limited skills sets (aerial, holding up the ball and shot power for Carroll, movement, pace and finishing for Hernandez).

I guess these are also personal thoughts and the season will show the reality.

I was looking at the Blackburn side that won the league and I'm thinking that Dalglish goes for the whole is greater than the parts aproach.

Liverpool have really played with a narrow midfield for best part of 40 years and other than Barnes we have not have many genuine wingers.

Liverpool have not, in the last two seasons, scored many different types of goals. We were very one dimensional and easy to shut down.

An example of this is not scoring off crosses and corners and I think that Downing and Carrol will add to our play despite not being arguable the most natrually gifted.

I think the prospect of Carrol is very exciting as long as he fulfills his potential and although I was never a fan of Downing the Villa fans I've spoken to regard him very highly. More so than Young which I find surprising.

In Meireles we have a player who can pick a pass and a fit Steven Gerrard will be worth his weight in gold. I know he has looked off the pace for a couple of seasons but he has genuinely had persistant injury problems that have now been addressed.
