Defensive Mid - Objective Comparison

Who are our best DMs and how do you rate them on an objective basis.

For me the DM candidates are; Sandro (SR), Dembele (DM), Huddlestone (TM), Parker (SP) and Livermore (JL).

The objective criteria are; Tackling, Speed/Energy, Passing, Goal/Freekick Potential, Defence Protection, Forward Momentum.

Now many articles discuss the merits of different players without considering the context of the game and there are many different scenarios e.g. home, away, protecting a lead and chasing a game. Since this article will be too large to consider all scenarios, just consider the scenario of the best home / attacking combination.

My scores out of 3 are as follows:

SR DM TH SP JL
Tackling 3 3 2 3 2
Speed 2 3 1 2 2
Passing 1 2 3 2 2
G/F 1 3 3 2 1
DP 3 2 2 2 2
FM 2 3 3 2 1

Total 12 16 14 13 10

There we go from my very subjective, objective analysis DM and TH are our best pairing for the home / attacking scenario.

the perm as suggested above...

thou there is certainly room for them all in the squad...especially IF we can put some good cup runs together...and of course injuries and suspensions...

I also believe that it was very hot in Greece and the whole team let themselves down. This was not the best test of this partnership, but still as you say there is a concern. My judgements are based on Hudd getting back to his best and there are no guarantees he can do this. In the Chelsea game he looked very determined and did enough for me to back him. Also, I believe that many concerns people have about Hudd are equally applicable to Scholes but people accept the poor tackling and lack of pace because of his passing qualities.

wldnt say i accept it....he shld be looking to..and be able to improve these areas of his game...

i'm going back a bit now...but in a game against the g00ns...he CC semi-final i'm sure...

DemPele,

I concur. Dembele has to play and he can take control of a game from DM, whereas the only other player we have who can do this is Parker. Hudd offers a different dimension, in that when we have control of a game he provides the creativity and the momentum to push on, since his passing game tires the opposition. We need to start to win some games comfortably. Keeping control of a game once we are in front is a must area for improvement.

We need Sandro & Parker as our DM's with us signing another quality AM to go with Dembele which leaves Huddle20stone in the cold unless he goes back to his original position of CB being a Beckenbauer type player a great passer without any real pace !!
