Barcelona now with today's rules etc. would probably win and Liverpool then with the rules etc of yesteryear would also probably win.

Spot on the rules regarding tackling now would see Souness & case both off !!! & as for Tommy smith !!!!.
still personally rate liverpool side of late 70s earl 80s as the best ive seen although i love the style of barca not sure they would be strong enough to have coped when you could actually tackle & refs knew what a dive was.

One question that has always interested me is how you feel the great Liverpool Teams of those times would have fared against the modern day Barcelona,

Graham Souness would have growled at the Catalans in the tunnel and that would have been that.
Xavi and iniesta would have 5hat their pants and refused to play, and messi would have needed to go and lie down in a dark room for a couple of months.

I'll hold my hands up and admit I think Barca would win that one - IF we didn't scythe through them and Souness didn't snap Messi in two. I just think it's a totally different game nowadays, much, MUCH quicker and less contact.

Mid table team + mid table signings = mid table.
