What real improvements have we made?

With less than a month to go until the season begins, and with some difficult opening games, the question has got to be asked: "What improvements on last season have we made?"

It was evident, down to AW himself agreeing we have to recruit, that reinforcements were needed. However looking at our team at the beginning of last season and as it stands now, am i the only one who thinks we had a stronger team then as compared to now?

So far this close season we have lost Clichy, Denilson and stand to lose Bendtner and Almunia without mentioning the uncertainty around Nasri and Cesc. And we have brought in Jenkinson and Gervinho who IMO will not be much of a difference, yet alone an improvement.

And when one looks at the re-inforcing that MUFC and MCFC have been doing (CFC is yet to buy any improvements and LFC has not bought ANY improvements its simply buying) where does that at the moment leave our prospects for the coming season.

Your thoughts?

Dude, that is all true. However, I was only responding to your comment: "he might not even get a work permit so i doubt he would be planned as a key signings."

That being the case, I'd rather we didn't waste any time and effort signing him. Not this summer at least.

fair enough. but say we were going to make three signings for the first team regardless of the campbell transfer. then we may as well sign him in addition if it's cheap and they reckon he has potential. i understand the frustration... no signings as yet and pre season getting on.

but a lot of clubs haven't done a lot in the market yet. it's always the same... everyone waits and then a few big transfers kickstart things. ideally we should get them in early but we're not the only club biding our time. but the difference with arsenal is 6 years of frustration is being carried over.

i'm going to judge the squad when the transfer window is over because i have a feeling we will have some reasons to be optimistic by then, maybe i'm wrong.

If we signed him after we'd completed our main business of the summer, then yes, no problem with that. Icing on the cake and all that.

I'm glad you're feeling optimistic fella. Long may it last too.

I certainly hope your optimism is not misplaced. I am finding little to be optimistic about because in my view we have as yet made any ipmrovements on the team we had at the end of last season.

In fact i would go as far as to say that our current squad is actually weaker than that we had at the beginning of last season.

Yes, we shouldn't forget all that "wear and tear" there's been to Cesc since then too.

Can't disagree more with this statement. Don't know if you've seen Gervinho play but I can guarantee you'll think different of him by the end of the season.

No i have not seen much of Gervinho play. I hope that he will turn out to be as good as you say.
Forgive me if i am not going to back the two signings we have as yet made as being sufficient to improve our side into not only title contenders but ACTUAL winners.

In Wenger we have been trusting all these seasons and frankly it has got us nothing. Thus my concern in his continued frugality and delay in improving the squad with 3 weeks to go till the season bigins.

3 weeks to go and its all doom and gloom it seems.

I personally think AW will not go into the new season without signing a defender ( I dare say a TALL defender), because I remember an interview, unfortunately can't locate it right now, where he talked about addressing lack of height in the team.

So have faith, 3 weeks is a long time in football.
