my thought are why do people keep making articles about "OMG WHY WENGER NOT SIGN PLAYER" when transfer window is still open for another 5 weeks.

OP

As much as you may not want to admit it, Liverpool have improved their squad.

Okay, forgetting about what other clubs have done and purely focusing on what Arsenal have, the addition of Gervinho will hopefully make us a bit more direct than last season and whilst I know little of him, by all acoounts Jenkinson seems to be a player that will improve our strength in depth at RB. Time will tell with him though I guess.

Losing Clichy should have been a positive sign that the manager was sick of seeing us throwing away points/leads/water bottles due to poor concentration levels, (Gael being one of the prime contributors to many of our downfalls in this deptarment).

Denilson's loan deal should have opened the door for either or both of Lansbury and Coquelin. However, there seems to be some confusion over Lansbury's future and Coquelin looks like he'll be loaned out again this coming season, meaning the most likely scenario will see Frimpong be used as Song's back-up and that doesn't fill me with much confidence to be honest.

Plus there's then the possibility that we'll lose both during the ACON.

Whoop-de-flippin-do.

if it makes you feel better the "yes" i admit it Liverpool have improvd their squad. Maybe this season they will make the huge improvement to 5th <wink>

*finishing off the bit about Clichy's departure...

Is Gibbs the answer? Good a player as he might well become, my concern with him is that he has enough appearances under his belt, many due to his injury record.

I must remind you of Wenger's comments that most of our transfer activity will be towards the end of pre-season.

Due to the nature of the transfer market, this is where the savvy do their business. The man basically said this himself.

Wenger said he would strengthen, and he will. He even said WHEN we would strengthen, and it wasn't now. So give the man a chance.

If Arsene does not get his finger out, which is the point of your post, I would worry about them finishing 4th.

i'm looking forward to what arsene has in store for us!

What reinforcing have CIteh been doing? They've only signed Clichy. They're more weakening than reinforcing so far.

"my thought are why do people keep making articles about "OMG WHY WENGER NOT SIGN PLAYER" when transfer window is still open for another 5 weeks."

Because we play 5 matches against United, Pool, Newcastle and 2 CL qualifiers before the window closes. Besides that, why must we wait for the season to start before we make any signings? Would it not be important for players to have a pre season with us to help them settle in?

gervinho

I would expect City to be signing a few more. Their manager has said he needs at least three more players, and that is if Tevez stays.

I would guess that in the last weeks of the window, City will be looking to offload a few players as well.

Maybe Arsense can pick up a few bargains.

@ Lexington

Tell me, do you thinkwe have as yet made any improvements? Yes we have made some changes...but do you think they are for the better?

If we had got rid of Clichy and replaced him with Evra for example that would have been a positive change. Argurably an improvement.

My biggest concern is that though we have made changes, none of tthem are improvements.

Whats your opinion?

It would be better for us to get the players blooded in now allowing them time to settle in but if it means paying several more million now than later on, we all know what Wenger will opt for.

Look at Sanchez. He was quoted at £45m at the beginning of the transfer window but Barca nabbed him for an initial fee of £23m. It's a good thing Liverpool weren't in the hunt. They'd have slapped a £60m offer on the table, or they would have if he was from Britain somewhere.

I'm willing to be patient on the assumption that Wenger will be bringing in new players. I don't rule out the likelihood of feeling like I've been left short-changed again though.

Okay, what happens if Nasri and/or Fabregas leaves?
Then we'll have to buy a replacement. which will be expensive.
If they DON"T leave, and we buy replacements for them, then we'll be badly out of pocket.
Personally, I believe it will be best for the team if we have some continuity, and have a fit and willing duo of Nasri and Fabregas playing with a few new members.
We can't splash out until we know what they are doing!
And does anybody honestly believe that Wenger isn't trying to strengthen the team?
There\s way too many Football Manager 'experts' on these boards.

...................................................................................................
The OP is correct. What he is basing the article on is...twice in the past, last January being the last...Arsene said he would buy to strengthen, but did not (the January episode was over the return or not of Vermalean, and Arsene opted to go with who we had, assuming Vermalean wold return; that decision left our cd weakened the whole spring, and we all know how that ended).

So, when you say that "Arsene said he would strengthen, and he will", how do you know he will this time?? Arsene has become rather infamous for delaying transfers, being very frugal, and going with what we got rather than what we need. It has become such a well known issue that virtually any day, somewhere in the media, there is an article from a former player or coach questioning Arsene's methodology.

So..the OP is correct...many of us are worred that, in the end of this transfer period, Arsene will not buy any more players. It could happen...and that would be tragic.

Gervinho gives us something different attack, I am expecting over 10 goals and 10 assists which is a fantastic asset for us. I believe a center back will be brought in near the end of the window, haven't a clue who but it will be somebody who is from a premier league team.

"Tell me, do you think we have as yet made any improvements?"

-----------------

To be competely honest with you I haven't seen enough fo Gervinho to know the answer to that question and nothing of Jenkinson at all, (I've had to base what I wrote about him on the opinions of people that have seen him - YoungGuns and the like).

As some people have correctly stated, there is still time for transfers to be made and in fairness to the manager, he DID say that most of his business would be conducted towards the end of the month.

Having said that, I am more of the opinion - as Batmanu suggests - that the earlier you make your signings, the more time they have to bed in and given the tough start to our season, I'd therefore have liked to have seen a couple more signing already made.

What worries me most of all is the rather protracted nature of our transfers these days.

Let's just hope that we don't end up with any more Alonso-like last gasp deals that don't have enough time to work out, (though in fairness that was as much to do with their bid for Barry breaking down as anything... but you get my point).

I guess we are alled agreed that it would be more prudent to puurchase as easrly as possible allowing the players time to settle in. Given the time left to the seasons start, and given the past 3 transfer periods, i see it being highly unlikely that we will make any IMPROVEMENT signings though we will make some signings.

"Okay, what happens if Nasri and/or Fabregas leaves?"

-----------------

This should have little baring on our initial transfers. If Wenger really likes Mata, we should be signing him anyway, not waiting to see what happens with Samir and Cesc.

If Cesc goes, his fee should be used in it's entirety to sign two or three top draw signings - a DM for starters - rather than just looking for a direct replacement for him.

The time for signing unknown Costarican teenagers will come again Arsene, but it is definately not now.
