While making us more defensively resilient has made us more boring to watch. Whereas we played 4-2-3-1 under Harry with two defensive holding midfielders we're effectively now playing 4-5-1 which works effectively away from home but is not nearly ambitious enough at WHL. The fact that I decided to leave the pub on Saturday at half time speaks volumes for my confidence with the current set up as the writing was on the wall despite Friedel's heroics first half. In DVD's defence though we've one as many away games as H won in the last twenty eight games of his tenure so I'm still going to give him time. His substitution of Defoe for Ade though takes some explaining which most of the time goes over the players heads as they can't understand his jargon.

Would DVD have played VDV anyway? I remember him being benched a lot in pre season unless this was to protect him for his impending move. I think we will miss the Dutchman in the big games particularly at the Effeminates although H had him sitting on his back side for the first 45 last year and that didn't go too bad!

I've been to every home game so far this season and the way he has the team playing kills the atmosphere in the ground stone dead. It's one of life's mysteries how we're so high up the table the way we're playing at home. Thank God we've managed a couple of decent away wins, if our home form transfers itself to our away performances, I can see this becoming a long, hard season.

Defence resilient?
We need to score more goals, because until we get BAE, Kaboul & Parker back we will always concede!!

"While making us more defensively resilient"
The facts don't support that.

When we have key players back and AVB finally decides to play 4-4-2 I think things will start to look better....
Friedal/Lloris
Walker Kaboul Vertonghen BAE
Lennon Parker/Sandro Dembele Bale
Adebayor Defoe

The next month will ask the questions of the ability and resolve of the squad. If we are there or thereabouts come December, when the injured start to return, then progress has been made.
