The Tories know they will not win the next election, so they are doing all they can to shrink the state as much as possible. If they know they're already out, why don't they help their business friends why they're at it?
Since I came to Britain I have noticed that the only two parties who can gain power are both completely useless!

Portugal had a huge problem with addiction, mainly heroin. Their answer was to decriminalise personal use amounts of all drugs and replace prison terms with rehabilitation and lessons.
One of their ministers who was instrumental in implementing the rehab programs made the point:
What is the point sending someone to jail so they can come out a criminal, when you can help them and teach them to become a productive citizen.

They are similar to the Netherlands, in that their youth are considerably less likely to use drugs. Many countries in Europe and the World are changing their attitudes towards small amounts of drugs.

POLICE in Portugal and the Netherland all carry guns and are ruthless when handling Miscreants of any sort. This certainly helps to deter a lot of alcohol and drug fuelled crime. Once bitten, Twice shy.
