No. These people need help, not cut off from society. Its a stupid idea - as if having no money is going to cure a junkie. what are they gonna do? steal.
I thought they already had, hence the drop in attendance at Parkhead.
Sorry, someone was gonna say it.
Seriously though, sounds like a good move, but how practical is it. There will no doubt be lots of exceptions.
"Common sense at last?"
"Alkies and junkies" need help, not further obstacles to recovery.
Must say, I agree with Partick, just gonna lead to more crime.
I had a mate who was a smack addict and he only went straight when he realised he might end up skint.
not a true story.
Naw mate - one of those things that sound good but when you actually think about it then it really doesn't. They will just rob more & probably more desperately - meaning more prison places, victims, higher prices,etc....we will probably end up paying more in the long run!!
"Must say, I agree with Partick, just gonna lead to more crime."
Build more Prisons then, and I don't mean the `country club' type - I mean the 8` x 4` with no windows and a hole in the corner.
Probably the opposite to common sense. Another popularist policy that wont be implemented the Gov must be having a hard time.
They need to stop wasting money on methadone for a start. its a pointless treatment which is proven not to work. All it does is line the pockets of drug companies.

We can barely maintain the ones we already have. How would we be able to maintain more?
Spot on Partick The best form of treatment is rehab abstinence but that costs money.

Yeah. punish them... that'll work Believe me - being smackheid is a prison sentence anyway. it's not an easy life. its fckin terrible.
Addiction to drugs should be a health issue not a criminal one. Go after the ones that profit from it not the ones addicted.
Daft idea. If they're going to cut off benefits to alcoholics, then they shoud ban alcohol altogether. The government are complicit in allowing the levels of alcoholism that exist in this country. They have no interest in banning it as it will cut off a very valuable income stream for them. It's hypocrisy at its worst.
As for the junkies, ship them off to the poppy fields in Afghanistan where they'll find their paradise. The cost of the flight tickets will be less than that of the methadone programme.
its a toughy.
methadone doesnt work so rap that.
if u stop benefits they will steal.
for me if u are arrested for it or genuinly want to stop they could do worse than put them in solitary confinement and cold turkey the crap out of them, then when they come out after they are clean, they can get benefits and help to get a job.
persistant offenders with no intention of getting clean, imo should get get nothing, but sadly thats when old ladies etc are targetted.
When will the tipping point occur?
The point where Pensioners, Junkies, Alkies and Benefit cheats sink the rest of us Taxpaying Mugs?
ZICO...... And seating twelve with just straw for beds. no bog either, just a couple of buckets like the ol days. But then again, they`d probably just drink the lot!
What is the cost of the benefit system to the economy?
Its a great headline grabber, but does it actually cost a huge amount?
I have no idea if it does or does not, but its a figure I would like to know.
I think society can afford to support the small minority who live their lives like this.

Its humane to, but i think there is a line when it comes to hurting others to feed habit sadly
The duty of the Government is to protect the most vulnerable of society I would put addicts in this category. Yes there is a choice involved but how many people can honestly say they have never made the wrong choices in life?
The wrong treatment is being supplied to these people nobody really cares because they are looked on as the bottom feeders of society. The rich cheat society through the avoidance of tax than addicts do.

Al drugs should be legalised. People will get hold of them either way. At least this way, we could cut out the parasitic dealers and use the taxes to help these desperate people
