Sweden again?

Seriously, what will England learn by playing Sweden again, for the third time in a year? If we want to reach the levels of the Spains and Brazils of this world, we need to play teams of that standard more regularly.

Also, Carl Jenkinson, Jonjo Shelvey? Has the talent pool really shrunk to such a level that we have to call up someone who isn't actually cleared to play for us yet and who looks perpetually scared every time he steps on to a football pitch? I know we aren't exactly blessed with world class right backs, but Jenkinson is scraping the barrel.

Meh, thought he was a pool fan.

I've played against Jenkinson when he was out on loan. He scored a free kick!

Uruguay would be a great test, but their forward line could rape us tbh.
====================
Uruguay are in poor form and look like going downhill, they have no real cohesion in attack AND have become uncharacteristically porous in defence.
The new 'flavour of the last few months' is Colombia, who beat the very same Uruguay 4-0, are on a good run in the WC2014 qualification and have a crop of v good players coming through.

OP, i don't know if this is a WUM-fest but Carl Jenkinson has had a marvellous start to the campaign (for once the Arsenal fans got it right: he is a talent).

However, the OP makes a point about us scraping the barrel. Raheem Sterling? Wilfred Zaha? The Ox?

I am not saying they are bad players but are they 'outstanding talents' or are we just putting them because the talent pool is so shallow.

I mean Spain can afford to leave Mata out of their team!

dennis henry, I'm English but moved to Melbourne as the wife is Aussie.. I'm from London. haha

The Ox has potential, Zaha never played in the Premier League so should be nowhere near the squad, Sterling hasn't done enough.. I think we just have to hope that St George's Park works or in the next 10-15 years all our players might be of the level of Sterling and Zaha..

I think the point is that they are young, so they could develop into outstanding talents. For the last few years England fans have been complaining no manager was brave enough to drop the likes of Terry, Lampard and Gerrard, yet here's one that will.

Arsene Wengooner, i get your point but you miss mine.

Messi at 17? Now, yes you could see he would be an outstanding talent. Ronaldo at 17? Rooney at 18? Fabregas at 16?

I am saying the likes of Ox, Sterling, Zaha etc are nowhere near outstanding talents at their age. At least when compared with the names above.

If we had a decent team, would the likes of Sterling etc even get close to the national team? Caps are being doled out like confetti these days.

It seems the one point more Spurs have over Arsenal means Walker being better than Jenkinson according to the WUM OP. Despite the fact Arsenal had a vastly suoerior defensive record to Spurs when Jenks was playing.

In terms of the freindly, why not mix in players who are doing well for u21s with more experienced players? People moan about Milner then moan about Sterling and Zaha. Where is the middle ground? Got to blood themsometime

the talent pool is a puddle at the moment

but those kids do have potential so it's a case of 24-26 year old proven mediocrity or give the brightest prospects a chance

I think giving the kids a go is the better choice to be honest
