Adebayor red card - was it a red?

Hi all

Have been away for the weekend and am going to watch MOTD when I get home tonight.

Just wondered whether the Adebayor red card was blatant, or debatable?

From my Facebook timeline, some Spurs fans have said it was harsh and others said it was Adebayor's fault?

Cheers

Same thing - stating that a home player would have got a yellow for the same offence is ludicrous.

You're saying something that hasn't happened and using it as a fact.

Looks like we'll just have to agree to disagree then,eh?

Sorry, really late reply, work and all that,

Just to clarify I wasn't saying 'all spurs fans' think it was a yelly, the point I was making to the chap (or chappette) who said it was a yellow, was that you wouldn't find anyone outside of Spurs' support who thought it was a yellow.

By no means was I trying to have a dig at spurs in general, just people who are blinded by their club loyalty that they try and justify anything.

Well you can disagree all you like.

It's a fact that what you're saying is a complete invention - it hasn't happened.

There's no proof whatsoever that decisions like that generally result in a red for the away side and a yellow for the home side.

No worries christhegunner - though I think you could perhaps acknowledge that the vast majority of Spurs fans agree with you!

Strange that, in my local after the game on Saturday it was about 70/30 split. Even 2 gooons said they weren't sure. It's all about opinions. I happen to believe that north London derbies now are a million miles away from what they used to be in the 80's. But I guess that's just the way football is now. As for justifying anything, it was a late challenge not a murder.

It would be easy to take if it wasn't Webb.

While it was a bit dangerous (if footballers want to play in a risk free game perhaps they should take up netball), it was not deliberate or malicious, and is a tackle that I think not every ref would see as a straight red. While it is not a defence, I do agree that if it was someone like Gerrard in a home game then the decision could have been different.

There are plenty of out of control lunges (not 2 footed, not a stamp) that avoid a red card.

Just because it was a debatable decision doesn't mean it definitely would have been a yellow if it'd have been the home side.

What you're saying doesn't make any sense.

Their is no debate, it's a red card. Anyone who thinks it isn't needs to learn the rules. Off the ground, studs up, brings his second foot into it.

Christhegunner

The rules do not talk about "studs up" or "off the ground".

It talks about excessive force or dangerous.

And even then it talks about the player being penalised, not necessarily a red card.

Plenty of room for debate as you have to apply some subjectivity on determining how dangerous a tackle is. That tackle was not that dangerous IMO, the worst that could have happened was exactly what happened...he caught Cazorla's foot with his raised boot. They don;t always get red cards!

IMO a mistimed header as dangerous where you headbutt the player because you are a split second late in getting there....never gets a card because it is accepted as being mistimed.
