In their latest barmy run of ideas, UEFA are planning to ditch the Europa league competition and make available further slots for the Champions League qualification.

This would probably mean 7 English teams having the chance to qualify for the Champions League.
Is it just me or does anyone else think this is just a terrible idea? It’s bad enough 4 English teams can qualify for a competition once heralded as the tournament of Champions, but now SEVEN?!

SEVEN CL qualification places?!

"but if the CL TV and prize money was split evenly among the 7, then the gap would dimish over time."
....and so take away any incentive that's left of coming 2nd over 7th.

Just a bad idea.

Is the Champions League really devalued now? Compared to yesteryear, then it's debatable. But don't say the supporters aren't over the moon when they win the competition.
Look at what it did to Chelsea. It's propelled them to a different league. I don't think the number of teams competing, or how they got there, devalues the CL at all. It still is and will ever remain Europes premier cup competition.

I think it's right as it is now other than the way the cash is doled out.

as an Arsenal fan I am thrilled that I dont have to worry and stress about getting the 4th spot and can rest assured we will be good enough to finish 7th every year....
Good times.

Why devalue the competition even further than it already is, i would suggest cutting the numbers personally and then making a worthy second European Competition to replace the Europa League.
Maybe something along the lines of two-legged knock out competition, no groups no Champions League failures joining the competition half way thru'.
Straight knock out trophy, no seedings and the winners gaining entry to Champions League the following Season, even if its just to a qualifying round/game.
That it just leave it. Otherwise European football would be full of owners like Arsenals.

Awful idea, why not give the Europa League winners a Champions League place for the following season...... that should create more interest and clubs would take it far more seriously.
But this sounds too simple for UEFA.
