Daily Fail

The quotes are direct from Platini and he admits the debate is ongoing. This is a real issue for UEFA.
I can hear Spurs fans opening the Champagne!
Looks like 8th place for Spurs when that kicks in
Logistically how does this work, more groups, more teams per group, more knockout stages, more qualifying rounds? Which of these, or all??
Being eleventh or some crap, I'd have to say this is a great idea, top eleven please.
We might finally get to find out if Messi can do it on a balmy summer's eve in Stoke.
Or Tottenham.
is this serious? interesting
IAWT, surely this is further watering down the value of the competition? It was once a competition for clubs that were the champions of their respective leagues. Now it's just a cash cow for elite clubs.
Are they going to rebrand it into the also-rans league
Heard this on 5live last night.
On one hand it is madness, 'champions' league should be for champions only! Or at a push, the thop two or three clubs.
On the other, UEFA cup is basically a joke. So something needs to be done.
For me: Top two clubs only in the CL, and then the next four in the UEFA. Make UEFA a straight knock out with no group games. Might liven up both competitions?
Only Liverpool, United, Chelsea...and soon City will ever lay claim to being European Champions.
Others should just enjoy the financial rewards
finances
Basically it's as close as we're likely to get to an admission that they've totally f'ed up the UEFA Cup.
Such a shame, but there you go.
Liverpool will still miss out
Serial TBH I don't think it devalues the competition really, after all the second team in La Liga, PL, Bundesliga etc... Is likely to have a lot more quality than the champions of let's say Romania.
What you're left with is the strongest teams from all over Europe, as opposed to the champions... Which though less romantic, is the opposite of watering down the value.
tbh. i prefer it as it is.. top 4... what eufa need to do is sort out the europa league.. its a joke.
give the winner a cl place, and stop cl teams dropping into it. also cut down the number of rounds/teams
Now it's just a cash cow for elite clubs.

We are talking about UEFA here Serial. If you think our board are greedy and only interested in money, I think they've learned all their tricks from Platini & co!
But yeah agreed with you, the competition will not be the same!
Poor idea. Would bring down the quality considerably, there are some poor teams already in the CL, but it's fair to give them a chance as they are usually champions in their country.
They're proposing 64 teams in rather then the 32. I can see the financial benefits, but that's all really. The trophy that once was the European Cup would be devalued, imo.
