La Liga Tournament Review and Awards

Well what a tournament this was! Records broken, runs ended, goals galore and a new champion, brilliant tournament and here is the review.

Starting with Group A and one I had predicted Comu and Bale to go through from. The former did this pretty simply despite having a poor team. Starting off with a record-breaking 7 – 1 victory against poor Choice, he certainly was up for it, this followed with 3 – 0 victories against newcomer Hengy and Batmanu with the only blip against Bale a 2 – 2 draw. As for Bale predicted for progression, that result against Comu was the only highlight close losses against all three of his next opposition ended his tournament in disappointment. However his pain was Choice’s gain, after the humiliation against Comu, Choice remained unbeaten stealing a win against Bale, easing passed Hengy and a hard fought 0 – 0 against Batmanu. This resulted in a shock progression for Choice whilst Batmanu and Hengy collected five and four points respectively.

On to Group B and a disappointing no show resulted in this being a four man group. Not short of entertainment though as Kent dominated the group beating Tyke 3 – 1 Wils 2 – 1 and newcomer Frankie 3 – 0, job done. Wils was tipped to edge Tyke out, but unfortunately for him it just didn’t happen. That loss to Kent being bad, losing to newcomer Frankie was a disaster falling 3 – 1. A win against Tyke, albeit comprehensively would’ve seen him through still, but despite leading twice Wils succumbed to a 2 – 2 draw and tumbled out. Tyke’s 3 – 2 win against Frankie saw him through, credit to Frankie great win against Wils and brave fightback against Tyke gives him hope for future tournaments, this group saw one of the ‘big two’ in Real Madrid go out.

Group C now this containing tournament favourite Voom and what a tournament favourite he was! Destroyed the opposition in this group, poor old Tez got a 6 – 0 mullering, Fab destroyed 5 – 0 and that wasn’t even the highest score! Newcomer Doo Doo felt his full force with a 9 – 1 defeat, a tournament record, eclipsing the 7 -1 victory done by Comu only 10 mins prior to it. Dog got off lightly with a 2 – 0 defeat. Voom rifles through with a 22+ GD! As for the rest Dog was making his own headlines, beating Fab 3 – 1, whilst tanking Doo Doo 5 – 0 and then along came another 7 – 1 victory over Tez, incredible results is this group so far. Dog also making light work of this group. As for the others Fab picked up two wins against Doo Doo who is looking a proverbial minnow and already proverbial minnow Tez. However Tez seized the opportunity to get rid of his winless streak and so he did a tight 3 – 2 victory over Doo Doo saw Tez record his first win in about 17 attempts, incredible stuff!

After all the excitement of the other groups, group D provided a more stale affair, full of players renowned for tough defences it was champion SpursBoy who powered through this one. Beating all opposition without conceding a goal with his customary 2 – 0, 1 – 0 wins. Psycho’s disappointment at the last tournament was somewhat erased when he took second place, including a 5 – 1 hammering of Oscar, no mean feat. This was followed up by a victory against Ludy and a stalemate against Terry. Terry could’ve gone through if he had converted his two stalemates into victories and Ludy could only secure a solitary victory. Oscar had another disappointing tournament finishing with a solitary point.
Right on the quarter-finals and it was a very nice looking line-up with the first tie being former and current champions Psycho and SpursBoy. A monster of a game saw SpursBoy in control but unable to penetrate a solid Psycho defence, yet in true SpursBoy fashion he nicked it on golden goal. Unlucky for Psycho, but good to see him back in the knock-outs!

Next tie saw tournament favourite Voom against surprise package Choice. Closer than the scoreline suggested Voom ran out a 3 – 0 winner, with Choice missing some great chances. Another credible performance from Choice, but Voom marches on to a tie against SpursBoy!

The other section of the draw saw rivals Kent and Comu square off. Comu doing well to drag Celta Vigo to the knock-outs, but Kent was hitting form with Athletico Bilbao and put a brave Comu to the sword winning 4 – 2 in the end. Comu probably relived to not be losing to SpursBoy for once or maybe not since he lost to Kent!
