What does 2013 bring for Celtic?

It seems that all things Celtic are going well at the moment and the club is feeling good about itself - and so it should.

Domestically we are in all competitions...and favourable to do well in them all.

Fantastic CL nights have allowed the board to really forget about any cash worries for the foreseeable future.

The squad is as strong as I can remember - back to the days of MoN included - we still had suspect positions but right now perhaps a centre half is the only real area i think we may need to cover for...but maybe thats being greedy.

On the point of the squad when was the last time we had so many players in demand - critically still under contract - and worth a fair chunk of cash?

Its all good.....

So my point here is two fold.

1. What should we expect of this team? What should we expect of our manager?

Last 16? Not many would have given us a chance but we done it, and in great style with a record breaking points total. So should we / can we look to last 8?
It cant be a failing of Lenny and the team to go out at the next round...right? Or should we be aiming for that next stage?
Should we go spend money on "that" player who might be the difference to make us progress - if such a person is there?

Domestically the league for sure - and possibly a cup. The expectation will be however a clean sweep. Should that be taken as anything less is a disappointment?

2. The next transfer window I think we will not loose any players barring a bid thats just too good to turn down - but next summer is a worry.

Many of those players will struggle to get into a team that can offer further progression in Europe, but they will get EPL football and vast sums of cash and with the possibility of a league and perhaps a cup medal in the pocket would they stay at Parkhead when even the manager realises that even with success there is a shelf life of being at a Scottish club that in all honesty will have little sustained domestic competition for the next 4 years, if not longer?

I would love to think that the nucleus of this team can stay together but I think we will have to reinvent the side and the big players in it within the next 12-18 months....

Reud you not a bit disappointed that a young lad who has only started and finished 2 games at senior level has knocked your club back for a new contract?

What can you do though? Yes I am but agents fill their heads with nonsense. I can guarantee he will disappear withiout trace.

Personally I would not give the guy another game. Let him stew till he gets his move. I only want players that want to play for the club.

Actually some of the young guys around Scottish fitba just now is impressive. On those outwith Celtic I would like to see the club employ the tactic used down south and in Europe wherein if you buy the player allow him to remain with the selling club if it suits both parties and let the lad continue his development rather than become a bit part might break through or not with us.
Offcourse I guess things like is he getting the sports science, coaching development etc that the buying club wishes come into play.
It can be a win win for all though in the right circumastances. The player gets a wage increase the selling club gets a payday and do not loose someone who by the fact has attracted a bigger club a good prospect at the least and in my particular example Scottish fitba does not only not loose a bright young prospect but he still has the chance to continue why he is even being discussed in real competative football

We have quite a line of good young players coming through. But will they make the step up? Probably not just like for the last 20 years or so. Promise so much and then fail to make the grade

Watched the highlights last night and seen the boy McGinn playing for St Mirren seems to be pretty decent forward thinking CM.

The problem is that if you allow a player to stay at the club they could develop bad habits that otherwise would be ironed out going through our system.

It has to be frustrating Rued. Seems to be a string of good young players have run the clock down on you of late. By rights you could have been in DU's situation where they seem to have got the timing right on when their players have clicked and their contract staus.
Long term the best thing that can happen to Scottush fitba is regional clubs become reliant on home grown for the vast majority of their players and their debt level is such that they can afford some strength in the negotiating position of when to sell is the norm.

its all part of the sytem we copied of Ajax etc . The reason they attract the raw product is those who come know they will get high quality development but more so exposure to move on to better things
-------------
And that is all very well and good and i understand why that is the policy but that kinda makes point 1 more pertinent. If the team has to reinvent itself then we really should be looking at what has been achieved by this team as pretty remarkable knowing it could take a few years to get a team settled again if its broken up in the summer...

Club will get money for sure but its a shame that we couldnt try and build on the base success...

Would be more than happy to come out the January transfer window with two of the above added to the squad

Rogne, Paddy and Miku should be shipped out

Tafka thats where Lawwell earns his corn you have to work it so there is no contract glut expiring simultaniously to get into the position of having to rebuild an entire team

Perfect world we keep all our best players and spend what we earned this year on a few top drawer signings. Problem is it only takes a few results to go against and we are stuck with a huge wagebill or worse forced to sell at a significant loss

LOve Paddy to death but is really not an actuall player for us anymore. Is kept because of his cult status. Rogne is worth kepping if he accepts the contract offered which by the sounds of it values him as a squad player rather than a first choice. Given his age and ability if the deal suits the club I would like to see him stay.
Miku is like a lot of loan players just hasent quite clicked for a number of reasons, shame I think he has shown signs of what might have been. He has 5 months left so who knows but aint looking good considering the talent we have in his position.
