somebody other than himself.
This time it's the players and the ref, and even if he's right, continually slating the players in the media is a sad reflection on his man management skills.
We haven't won a home game for months but apparently none of it's down to team selection or tactics.
When we won a game the other week he claimed he got his psychology right.
He said it was a complete performance against Dundee.
Well not the game I watched. OK we won but had Dundee got their penalty the game could have been turned on it's head.
We lose it's the players or somebody else at fault .
We win and it's down to him.
And yet again Houston blames............

OSB,
It's sad that a lot of United fans just accept that we're going to struggle to get top 6 year after year.
Tannadice used to be a venue that any team dreaded to come to.
United were never filled with superstars, just decent, hard-working players with a passion to win for the team.
Now we've slipped into the ranks of the mediocre.

Spur, we've finished top 4 last 3 years running I don't see that as struggling to get top 6 and the 2 years we got 4th not 3rd we were only a couple of points off 3rd. I wouldn't have said quite mediocre, we are still no further behind than we were last season, if we finish in the bottom 3 then fair enough, but he has to be given the chance to turn it round. Ive yet to hear of a decent replacement either
Weve also been blessed with some of the best and most exciting young players in Scotland over the last few years, 3 of these players (Russell, GMS and Armstrong) are still at the club.

West coast,
What worries me is whether he has the capability to turn it around.
He always seem to me to be hoping things work out rather being able to make it happen.
Every club replaces their manager sometime and unless you can afford the best then there's an element of luck involved.
I remember when Jim McLean was appointed.
That was a real shock.
A man who was working at Dens as a coach and look where he took us.
If Houston is as good as he thinks he is then he should be fielding the job offers.

Shedboy, wether he'll turn it round or not is yet to be seen, all i'm going on is that the last couple of seasons we have turned it round. So on that evidence alone I feel he should have my support, if we finish the season poorly then I see no problem with not renewing his contract.
I'd imagine Stephen Thompson is having mixed emotions on the situation too, so unless we go on a good winning run I don't think he'll be offered a new contract anyway.
But if we do turn the corner and finish the season strongly, Houston might just feel there has not been a lot of loyalty from the club and not take any new contract, my biggest fear is going back to the pre Levein/Houston days.

Westcoast,
Its hard to argue with your comments about the pre Levein years but it has to happen sometime and who knows we might unearth another McLean.

shedboy, I guess we'll never know until it happens, but i'm not really a gambling man, probably why i'd stick with the devil I know. But I was pretty worried after Levein left and that turned out alright I don't see him getting a new contract anyway, unless we start turning it on pretty soon

Shedboy.
Sadly, there's never going to be another McLean.
Brilliant manager who really knew how to motivate his team but one of a kind.
He may not have been liked by all of the players but at least they showed him respect.
