Peter Schmeichel

Manchester United legend of course and arguably the best keeper we've ever had.

But I guess I'm just wondering if there are some of our fans out there who might look at him somewhat differently for the fact that he deicded to finish his carrer at Man City.

in response to the OP.... yeah i hold a bit of a grudge against him... not so much for signing for City (as other players have done)... more for the way he celebrated their victory in the last derby at Maine Road, really milked the crowd for me

(on the other hand it might not have been as bad as i recall.... but i felt sickened at the time)

Outstanding keeper though, unbeatable on his day

VCD - Definitely, as much as I think the media overblows the whole cross problem, it is a weakness of his. However, bar that I really do struggle to find a fault in him.

Perhaps you could criticise him for pushing out shots rather than catching him, but it's nit picking really. He catches those he really needs to normally.

---

I wasn't criticising him at all, it's a fact that he needs to deal with crosses better.

That wasn't a dig at him, I rate him very highly and think he will be awesome. He needs work on dealing with balls into the box, everyone knows this I just said that if he gets better in this area he will be up their with best.

DDG's agility and reflexes are amazing though. I can't remember ever seeing a keeper who can get down as quickly as he can to make a save.

Yes he is truly brilliant at making saves, indisputably our number 1 keeper in my opinion.

Don't like seeing Lindegaard playing ahead of him.

Schmeichel definitely had more work to do than VDS.

United's defensive organisation reached ridiculous levels particularly during the clean sheet run where VDS I think was making around 1 save per match.

Whilst Schmeichel was at the club, he had some excellent defenders in front of him but the team had a whole different way of handling things defensively.

I think VDS was at his best during his time at United but Schmeichel for me is an all time great.

It's just good that we had two of the best ever keepers.

Shame we didn't get VDS for longer but we still had some great times with him.

He does have good reflexes, but I feel that people overhype them to some extent. There have been a fair few shots that have gone through him and under him which I think he should/could have saved. I suppose that no keeper is going to get to every shot that they could get to, but he has made some mistakes that you would put under the shot stopping bracket. But perhaps they come down to bad positioning/weight distribution rather than reflexes?

I recall being absolutely stunned when he signed for Fulham back in 2001. How we could have done with him then. It is amazing that we didn't sign him until he was 35!

Schmeichel was perhaps the best keeper ever and that is no exagerration. People are forgetting his displays and how journos, ex-players and supporters said he was United's best ever and up there with Banks, the Russian guy etc.... His organisation and distribution set him apart too. He plucked crosses out of the air one handed.

I used to love it when he'd throw the ball to the half way line by just pushing it away from his chest with one hand - he didn't even have to use an overhead motion. We has very strong.
