We got his best years, legend.

Why should it? Andy Cole played for City as well, should we look at him different? Both club legends who contributed immensely to our treble year and now club ambassadors. I have massive respect for them both.

Van der Sar was better

I remember when he went over to Manchester City and I was actually gutted to hear it. Especially since we were struggling to find a solid keeper at the time and thought he should have stayed with us. To be fair though like Earl said, we got his best years and he helped win us so much.

TCP

They had different strengths. I suppose overall VDS was more consistent but when Schmeichel had a great game, he had an effing great game and I don't think VDS could touch him. Would go for the Great Dane personally.

imo VDS was a better gk, i shouldnt mean far, but thats what he was tbh

Am quite surprised that people would give the nod to vds. Always considered schmeichel to be the best keeper in England over the last 20 years.

Both top keepers, both completely different personalities on the pitch.

arguably the best keeper we've ever had.

there is no argument about this. He was the best goalkeeper ever in fact.

VDS was great for United, but we bought him at the end of his career. He was the Fulham goalie when we bought him.

Shmeichel was a class above as a shot stopper, distributor and organizer.

Shmeichel's team had more shots against i bet, and so had more to do

why do you say that?

How is that relevant to how good a shot stopper he wasin comparison to VDS?

Schmeichel made saves that VDS could only dream of making by the time he joined United. Maybe in his Ajax days...

Always more alert if you're in the game

Edwin was at his best at united for me, better than his time at ajax, juve and fulham, he brought a calming influence to the defence that had'nt been there for years, such a cool customer...................still think big pete was slightly better though.

Doesn't really affect your ability though; you either havethe ability to make those saves or you don't..

Furthermore, I don't recall there being a large variation in the numver of shots Schmeichel had to deal with. You seem to have forgotten that he played in some of our best teams and had players like Bruce, Pallister, Stam and Johnson in front of him.. Not to mention Irwin and Neville. Then there were midfields containing the likes of Keane, Robson, Scholes all in their prime...

Your defence records were better with VDS no ?

posted on 19/12/12

As cobsiderably as you are trying to imply? I honestly don't think the point you are making is even valid; how does the number of shots a goalkeeper faces honestly have an influence on his ability? You are talking like Schmeichek faced 20 shots for every 1 that VDS did...
