We have become a less cavalier team though.

Schmeichel was the best for me. I've never seen a better keeper and my old man says neither has he. VDS was too class too though.

So what is your point regarding the shot stats then... because the 'more aware' argument doesn't wash if you're only suggesting it was one or two more shots per game...

Why not ? He let in more goals than VDS didn't he

posted on 19/12/12

Yes and Lampard has scored more goals than Scholes but everyone knows Scholes is twice the player Lampard ever was. VDS had arguably the best Man United back 4 in history with Neville - Rio - Vidic - Evra... I don't think its as black and white as saying Schmeichel conceded more. Afterall, Valdes concedes less than Buffon, Neuer, Casillas etc but take away the best outfielf 10 in world football and he's actually garbage.

Andy Gray screams are etched on the memory.
If you hear it all the time, you start to believe it

The weather

Discussing the weather is probably the most exciting thing about being a Chelsea fan these days

"Que"

???????

Spanish for 'what?'...

Given that he was talking nonsense I thought perhaps he would respond better to a different language...

I was gonna go for 'quoi?' but he seems more like the stereotypical socks and sandals in benidorm, dos Stellas por favour type...

He should never have gone Blue plus i'd have had VDS over Peter all day long. Both top keepers but Peter's ego used to get on my nerves, no matter how good he was.

All round keeper and calming influence at the back - Van Der Sar for me!

Having been around long enough to have seen Peter since his first game, and having seen VDS I would say "in my opinion" that VDS was the better keeper.

Just my view, but that's what I honestly think.

Suprised no one's mentioned DDG.

Not saying he is as good as either atm, definitely not. But he's got the potential to be better than either in my opinion, though admittedly my memories of Schmeical are hazy

De Gea has the ability to be as good as both, needs to learn to deal with crosses and he will be one of best around.

VCD - Definitely, as much as I think the media overblows the whole cross problem, it is a weakness of his. However, bar that I really do struggle to find a fault in him.

Perhaps you could criticise him for pushing out shots rather than catching him, but it's nit picking really. He catches those he really needs to normally.

he's still a united legend to me.

De Gea will be world class in the next year or 2.

posted on 19/12/12

De Gea's shot stopping will be better than Schmeichel just because of his ridiculous agility but in one on ones Schmeichel was awesome and worth about 10 points a season.

De Gea > Hart.

in response to the OP.... yeah i hold a bit of a grudge against him... not so much for signing for City (as other players have done)... more for the way he celebrated their victory in the last derby at Maine Road, really milked the crowd for me

(on the other hand it might not have been as bad as i recall.... but i felt sickened at the time)

Outstanding keeper though, unbeatable on his day
