HNY All Villans where do we go from here?

Poor Xmas and made even worse by leading at Swansea with seconds to go and ending up with one point.

Apparently we were lucky to survive first twenty minutes, but........ a point is better than none.

Even younger side out yesterday and once again I take my hat off to PL for the way he has gone (or forced to go), although it is fraught with risks. I like some others think we have to mix the youngsters up with some experienced players in order to stay up.

Varying reports in the papers from 10m to spend to Lerner will buy big, and obviously this will probably be net spend and depends whether Bent stays or not?

Possible he could go, but if injured more likely he will be here for rest of season so 10m available.

Squad is wafer thin due to injuries and appears Westwood the latest. Dunne likely to be sold on. Wish Stan was back

How long before Vlaar, Nzogbia and Gabby are back amongst others?

Midfield still the problem, Bannan and Delph to come in but what are they currently going to bring?

Defence is close behind and we look vulnerable every time we are attacked, partly as a result of the lightweight Midfield.

I think we are more than capable of scoring goals with the right service and Benteke, Weimann Bent and Gabby is probably one of the better sets of strikers in the lower half of the league.

What are we likely to get? Well we could recall Delfeunso Hutton and Warnock? Maybe the latter but otherwise would do no good at all.

Lescott would be ideal as a Villa supporter but we cannot afford him or Milner.

These two plus somebody like Huddlestone would do us if we had the funds and they were available, but otherwise I cannot think who.

Only one game but Bennett looks a better midfielder than left back

I suspect PL will look abroad and anyone we do get will be unheard of, but I have faith that in the current situation the right buys will be made.

We do have the Cups to hopefully look forward to, and vital games against Saints and the Baggies coming up to start with. Please do not let Muppet Mick leave VP with a win

Lets hopefully make 2013 a year to remember for Villa (Unlike 2012)

P.S Happy New Year to all blousers including Blueinbarca

I'm hoping Lambert's European contacts will turn something up. One obvious source is Germany, where the youth policy and training fits in with Lambert's own ideas. A CB and DM who know their job would do the trick.

We have to beat Southampton, and we need either new players or return of the injured by then.

Nothing seems to be happening in the window, but this is what I would suggest going forward.

We take Coates on loan from Liverpool. We spend our 10 million budget on Joleon Lescott. We take Tom Huddlestone on loan with the possibility of signing permanently in the summer (Tottenham will hopefully allow this considering they have Parker, Sandro, Sigurddson, Dempsey and Dembele here). The players that are currently injured are played regularly when they are fit, and the young players who have been getting trounced every week are sent out on loan until the end of the season, leaving us with a more seasoned matchday squad looking like this:

..................................Guzan....................................
Lowton...........Coates............Vlaar...........Lescott
.....................Huddlestone........Ireland...................
Gabby.....................N'Zogbia.................Weimann
......................................Bent...................................

Subs: Guzan, Clark, Baker, El Ahmadi, Delph, Holman, Benteke.

Good options on the bench. A much more solid defence. Up to now Ireland and N'Zogbia have been useless, but I think with more quality players around them they will do better. N'Zogbia playing in the hole with a free role could finally get the best out of him. Bent back in the team to score goals.

We have said we want a full back, a ball winning midfielder and a centre back. We have all three here. Lescott is not really a left back but can play there and would do a very good job.

That team looks, on paper, more like top 8 as opposed to a team battling relegation.
