I'm hoping Lambert's European contacts will turn something up. One obvious source is Germany, where the youth policy and training fits in with Lambert's own ideas. A CB and DM who know their job would do the trick.
We have to beat Southampton, and we need either new players or return of the injured by then.
Nothing seems to be happening in the window, but this is what I would suggest going forward.
We take Coates on loan from Liverpool. We spend our 10 million budget on Joleon Lescott. We take Tom Huddlestone on loan with the possibility of signing permanently in the summer (Tottenham will hopefully allow this considering they have Parker, Sandro, Sigurddson, Dempsey and Dembele here). The players that are currently injured are played regularly when they are fit, and the young players who have been getting trounced every week are sent out on loan until the end of the season, leaving us with a more seasoned matchday squad looking like this:
..................................Guzan....................................
Lowton...........Coates............Vlaar...........Lescott
.....................Huddlestone........Ireland...................
Gabby.....................N'Zogbia.................Weimann
......................................Bent...................................
Subs: Guzan, Clark, Baker, El Ahmadi, Delph, Holman, Benteke.
Good options on the bench. A much more solid defence. Up to now Ireland and N'Zogbia have been useless, but I think with more quality players around them they will do better. N'Zogbia playing in the hole with a free role could finally get the best out of him. Bent back in the team to score goals.
We have said we want a full back, a ball winning midfielder and a centre back. We have all three here. Lescott is not really a left back but can play there and would do a very good job.
That team looks, on paper, more like top 8 as opposed to a team battling relegation.
HNY All Villans where do we go from here?
