Same mistake as last year?

Long time reader, not even occasional poster but just thought I spare a couple of thoughts with fellow Spurs supporters as I'm almost fallin asleep in my office, so go easy on me.

With the news that Adebayor is off to the African Cup of Nations and Defoe basically our only recognised striker, we'd be mad not to go for someone this transfer window to help us secure that CL spot.

I can't imagine Levy doing the same mistake as last season and AVB must stand up to him. Yes, Defoe is having a stormer, but we all know he'll most definitely go through a rough patch and we could use someone like Damiao to jump in.

On another note, by the end of the season, all our strikers will be at least 29 years old so it won't be too long until we have a major overhaul in that department anyway. So let's get this started now, so by next season we'll already have someone who knows the squad and had some time to settle in.

So what do you guys think and who do you hope we sign and why?

Hope you lads have a good week!

AVB speaking Portuguese could be a big factor in future players from Brasil coming.

We know Sandro has been getting on with it re settling in the UK, but not everyone is like that.
A player being able to communicate with the manager native while they settle down, is useful.

"How about Huntelaar?"

Has he not re-signed with Schalke ??

huntelaar just signed new deal....granted...rumours schalke bit short on funds...and this was done just too push up the transfer fee....but...new deal nonetheless....

sure deal with internacional only covers the home grown talent........sure i read that on here at one time or another...and as such...damiao don't fall in that catergory....

Would be nice to know the T&Cs (similarly for the new "relationship" with Madrid) .

Perhaps looklike can get more info for us.

Considering we probably end up playing with striker in somekind of 4-3-3 i think Damiao, Defoe and Ade would be enough. So what you reckon we should add?
----------------

i dunno who mate to be honest.

i just think from an outsiders view that Leandro, defoe and adeybayor wouldnt be enough to push you on.

when you look at utd and city, both teams have 4 very capable CF's in the team to cover for injuries and loss of form.

spurs would have defoe, an unproven youngster in a new league, and a player who hasnt been decent on a regular basis since he left arsenal.

an injury to defoe and your top 4 ambitions would take a huge dent as i cant see where the goals would come from other than bale chipping in.

like i said, i just think you also need a more reliable and proven striker who knows where the back of the net is.

someone mentioned huntelaar, and had he just not signed a new contract would have been a very decent option.

"He has to show a lot more goals and flair to show he is not just going to get shoved to the floor with one shoulder barge."

He doesn't. He's a mini beast.

His problem in 2011/12 IMHO from what I saw was his first touch when in the danger area. He lost a lot of chances because of that. Good strikers will control and shoot before the defender gets stuck in.

We have got to be careful when considering paying over the odds for a young Brazilian striker who still has a lot to prove.

I mean Chelsea probably thought that they were on to a sure thing with Torres and paying over the odds for an established striker was a good risk to take at the time. Look how that is turning out.

Which is why we don't currently have him.
Levy is not going to pay over the odds. He is probably insisting on suitable "bonus" clauses if he did flop.

Those in Brasil with a piece of Damiao want much more than that on day 1.

Once you understand this, and that Spurs do not have money to waste on a whim, you can see why nowt has happened to date.
