Xabi Alonso Return?

When asked whether he is ready to commit his future to Real, Alonso said: "Renewing is not something I am thinking about at the moment.

"It's not on the table but everything has its time."

Will he possibly ever return under Brendan, and the current owners? I think Brendan would welcome him, but the owners will look at his wage and age and question the need for him.

He's 31 years of age, but his ability as a player is something that will unlikely fade. Like Scholes and Pirlo, Alonso has years left in him to play as a deep lying playmaker, and I would welcome his return.

However, with a host of midfielders already here, where does he fit in?

Can and will it happen?

trouble is he'd be playing in gerrard's position and gerrard is in the best form he's been for a few years atm.

Fantastic servant in his day for the club. International class player too. Scorer of fantastic goals (esp Istanbul) take him back, home? Having removed the rose-tinted spectacles, sadly for me the answer would have to be no. Unless that is, BR decided to 'rest' our skipper more often. Xabi could do that job. JimmyTheRed

Get him back

We would only have Gerrard, Lucas, Allen, Henderson and Xabi.

Looks clear that Sahin isn't staying and Shelvey isn't going to start every game right now. What a player Xabi is to learn from.

Lucas Alonso
-- Gerrard

(Back up Allen, Hendo, Shelvey)

Squad.

He said in an interview with LFCtv that he left because in the summer of 2008, he realised that he had gone from being an important player to a player who could be sold to raise transfer funds.

Maybe family reasons came into it as well, but it always seemed to me that he was just hurt that Rafa tried to sell him.

It was what Rafa had to deal with as well at that time.

He almost always had to sell to buy.

Yes, that’s true, but Rafa’s version of the story is that Xabi was always going to go back to Spain anyway, so he tried to sell him while the price was optimum for LFC (as opposed to letting Xabi decide when it was time to go).

Xabi was bought for 10m, and we got 5 years good service out of him, before selling him in his late 20's at a profit of 20m. The only thing bad about such a deal is that the money was not re-invested in the transfer-market. It was diverted towards interest payments on a loan that was of no benefit to LFC.
