Xabi Alonso Return?

Alonso was a fantastic player for you. Butd you really see him fitting in with the plan at Liverpool?

Sure, any club would love a player like him. But will Liverpool want him.....(the club, sure the fans will)

Gerrards trying to butter him up by voting him the third best player in the world behind messi and nobend

I don't know Fellaini, but if the club can get him on a free then maybe. His style suits Brendan's approach, and he still has the ability.

Experience and maturity is something our side has missed this year, and Xabi has tons of it. We will see what happens in the near future.

On a free!

What a deal that would be.

Well his contract runs out at the end of the season, and he is still unsure of completing a new contract. He has also stated that he would want to return to English football, and rejoin as a Liverpool player.

It would be a great bargain in the summer if it happend, but it sounds too good to be true.

I thought he had 18 months left on his current deal?

Couldn't see him going to another PL club even if he didn't say he would want a return to Liverpool.

He seemed a nice guy.

Buy him for £8m in the summer.

Can't see it, personally
Does anybody else not think that Brendan’s tyle requires a high-energy midfield?

Gerrard is still covering quite a lot of ground, but he's not going to get any quicker, from here on in, and my guess is that that Brendan would see the addition of Xabi as a step in the wrong direction.

Could be wrong, but my suspicion is that he doesn't fit the profile, either in age or in playing-style.

Plus, I think we need to get out of the habit of bringing in thousands of central-midfield players. For me, it hasn't been the most urgent requirement for some years. We have very good possession stats this season, but it hasn't been winning us enough games. They were quite good under Kenny, too.

He's a lovely player, Xabi, but what I think we need is not really what he does, and at 31...not convinced.
So he'll probably be straight over here, in the summer

I kind of agree with Kemlyn.

Our game requires pressing, pressing, and more pressing.

When you watch our U21's, I actually think they play with more of the style that ultimately Brendan wants than the first team do (which is only good for them progressing into our team).

The only room for a 'stroller' if you like, is the attacking midfield position, where the likes of Adorjan, Suso etc maybe won't press with the same intensity.

I am not sure Alonso, wonderful player though he is, is ideally suited to either of the deeper intense midfield roles in our style, and for that reason I doubt BR will be looking to spend a big part of his wage budget on him.

Take him in a heartbeat, The inspiration factor alone would be worth it

Yes, that’s what I think.

He likes nippy little fokkers with quick feet, and a desire to press like the Duracell bunny (eg. Suarez, Steerling, Lucas, Alllen, hopefully Sturridge).

There will be exceptons, but at the moment, that would still be Gerrard (some of the passes he’s been hitting lately have been from his old, exquisite repertoire, eg. the last goal against Sunderland).

I’m not sure you’d have two exceptions to the rule playing in similar areas of the pitch.

Remember Gary mac? How did he work out for us.........XABI is coming home, just a question of when.

trouble is he'd be playing in gerrard's position and gerrard is in the best form he's been for a few years atm.

Fantastic servant in his day for the club. International class player too. Scorer of fantastic goals (esp Istanbul) take him back, home? Having removed the rose-tinted spectacles, sadly for me the answer would have to be no. Unless that is, BR decided to 'rest' our skipper more often. Xabi could do that job. JimmyTheRed

Get him back

We would only have Gerrard, Lucas, Allen, Henderson and Xabi.

Looks clear that Sahin isn't staying and Shelvey isn't going to start every game right now. What a player Xabi is to learn from.

Lucas Alonso
-- Gerrard

(Back up Allen, Hendo, Shelvey)

Squad.

He said in an interview with LFCtv that he left because in the summer of 2008, he realised that he had gone from being an important player to a player who could be sold to raise transfer funds.

Maybe family reasons came into it as well, but it always seemed to me that he was just hurt that Rafa tried to sell him.

It was what Rafa had to deal with as well at that time.

He almost always had to sell to buy.
