Yes, that’s true, but Rafa’s version of the story is that Xabi was always going to go back to Spain anyway, so he tried to sell him while the price was optimum for LFC (as opposed to letting Xabi decide when it was time to go).
Xabi was bought for 10m, and we got 5 years good service out of him, before selling him in his late 20's at a profit of 20m. The only thing bad about such a deal is that the money was not re-invested in the transfer-market. It was diverted towards interest payments on a loan that was of no benefit to LFC.
