How on Earth has Roberto Mancini managed to talk his way out of punishment for saying Kevin Friend "ate too much" over Christmas?

As far as I remember, it was the interviewer that brought the subject of referee bans into the questions - hence the slightly weird wording of his response.
I'm not saying SAF is perfect - he sometimes says things that make me cringe. I just think on this occasion, he's been sold down the river a little bit.
But then again, if you continually make comments like he does then you can't really complain when people jump on it.

To be fair, I hadn't actually thought of that.

So he didn't confront the ref during the Newcastke game?
----------------------
Yes he did.
I believe he is the first ever manager to do such a thing too
I'd throw him to the Wolves

After the Newcastle game where a linesman incorrectly awarded a penalty against Ferdinand last season, Ferguson had some pretty strong stuff to say about him - I think he implied that if it were up to him, he wouldn't get to officiate another game. This went completely uninvestigated. I'm not sure if he's let away with more than most, but I certainly wouldn't say he's victimized.
Either way, this isn't about Ferguson, it's about Mancini. I can't quite believe that he has gotten away with saying what he did.

You are allowed to critisise a ref's performance
You are not allowed to question their integrity
The FA made that clear a couple of years ago

That comes across as him saying the linesmen should never officiate again! At the very best, he means that he deserves a ban
-----------------
He said it wasn't for him to say
You can;t ban him for that for goodness sake
Dies my head in when fans want managers to have touchline bans
They sit 10 yards away instead of where they usually sit
Who really gives a flying fek

Other managers make controversial comments far more that Fergie does
It just appears that Fergire does in more because when he does it, it covers the back 4 or 5 pages of every redtop for the next few weeks
