I wish people would lay off him.
Yes, he's been in poor form and IMO it was blatantly obvious that Henderson, on current form, should have been a shoo-in ahead of him.
But Allen showed earlier on in the season that he's capable of being hugely dominant. It's a bit sad that there seems to be an effort on Twitter to pin a lot of the blame on him today, when we had few players at all to be proud of in the first half.
We were set up incorrectly today, and a lot of our players, to be quite honest, bottled it in terms of adventurous play and positive pressing. Allen was far from the only culprit.
It's unpleasant losing to United, especially when the score line was so close despite us giving them a head start by not turning up in the first half. But at the moment, we're a team who aren't consistent and haven't the mentality to come out on top a lot in a lot of big games like today.
I just hope that, whilst we're trying to improve, the fans realise that we're a fair way behind the very top teams and we're relying on blooding a young team to hopefully make up the ground on those with greater resources than us. A lot of the ire directed at the team seems to come from people who are either unwilling or unable to accept that we're not dining at the top table.
You can spout all of the "We're Liverpool, we should be challenging for X or Y" rhetoric all you want, but you're just deluding yourself and ignoring the fact THAT QUITE A LOT OF TEAMS HAVE BEEN MANAGED BETTER THAN US OVER THE PAST THREE SEASONS.
We're not in a position where we look at today's performance and view it as the worst in history; we're in a position where we hope our young manager and young players are able to sift through what was wrong with the first half as well as what was right with the second half, and come through the other side better for it.
Joe Allen is a good player who had a shocking game, just like Sterling, Lucas and [shock, horror] Gerrard. I just hope our fans don't attempt to sacrifice him on the altar of impatience.

I blame Rodgers who likes to talk a good game.
His comments led to Allen being hyped up as the 'Spanish Xavi' and of course, he was on a hiding to nothing from that.
Although, i think Allen is overrated i do think he is a young lad with some promise and levels of incosistency are expected with a player of his age.

Another overrated player - one who shows some promise, so if that's him being underrated, realistically he's just crap with no promise.

I think you are overrated.
However, if you perused my comments in its entirety, you'd see i wasn't mindless criticising a young player.
I tempered my critiques with praise but i proferred my reason why he is off-form.
Like Danny Welbeck - who is often criticised on my board- i always talk about 'patience. It is too easy to criticise young players.

Well it has become very easy on this site for every single player to be either overrated or underrated. Then we have deluded etc etc as other annoying overused words.

To be honest I don't rate Allen at all. I just can't see what he brings to the table other than his desire to get on the ball and a high-pass completion %.
Defensively I think he's poor (players running off him, weak in the challenge, fouls in bad areas), I haven't seen him create chances, he doesn't look like he can score goals, can't dribble, haven't seen any evidence of a quality long game and isn't great physically.
Personally, I think Britton is better.
Am I missing something?

a bit like Carrick then

Carrick is a big lad that can hold his own in midfield, his passing range is excellent, defensively he's one of the best midfielders you'll see (in terms of positioning, awareness, discipline) and he's created goals this season.
So no, not a bit like Carrick.

Yeah but Carrick is crap, that's the difference.
