League Reconstruction

Discussed to death but I hate the idea of the split in any form. It annoys me for instance that a team in the bottom half of the table can finish with more points than the teams in the top half. Also, how many times have we seen in the English league that some team is flying in the first half of the season and then lose it the second half or vice versa.

I do not see the issue with 2 leagues of 21 teams with the pyramid structure in place. This would give 40 league games a season and playoffs for potentially 4-up 4 down and the bottom 2 drop out of the league into non-league.

And I don't buy the meaningless mid-table games as every game is worth 3 points and the potential to climb or drop down the table is far higher if there are more teams in the division. Going on a good run of 4 or 5 wins can be the difference between being bottom 6 and top 6 in some cases.

I think the bottom half of a split only trying to avoid relegation makes for boring safe football, teams are just trying not to lose in a lot of cases. I for one welcome the variety of opponents coming to Ibrox, this would also be the most efficient way to spread the wealth to the most clubs possible.

Having the 2 leagues would also make League and Scottish Cup games more meaningful and gritty again as teams would be more closely matched in most cases. Second division side wanting to prove themselves against first division side for instance, Non-league teams wanting to prove they are good enough to get into the league proper...

Competition all round, variety and interest for supporters and sponsors and a spread of the wealth.

What about a 13-13-13 set-up...with the last 3 teams that joined the association, demoted to the Highland league or Junior super-league?

Magners, I don't buy that. Young guys don't get the chance they deserve in the top division because all games are supposedly against the top teams, and 4 times a season. How boring is that?

The temptation for bigger clubs to play younger players against weaker opponents will be there constantly, improving them as players and strengthening the team and opposition in even measures as a result.

13-13-13? How many times do you propose teams play each other every season?

They are getting more chances now than they ever have in the last 20 years...because Spl teams are skint

No disrespect but, all the best Scottish youngsters are either with the Spl pro-youth set-ups or, down south.

We're bereft of talent

I hate the split as well - oh and Magners what's wrong with having more teams from the lower divisions - you didn't exactly walk all over Arbroath did you?

Terrible idea. The only way to improve scottish football is get rid of the meaningless teams not have more games against them.

16-18 two top leagues with professional clubs only, regional leagues below this to allow a pyramid structure.
