A blessing?

Maybe this is what we needed to convince the owners to spend big next week. If they really do mean business time to put their money where their mouths are.

I was concerned with AM's tactics of playing three up front, no width against a fast moving Watford. We only played them recently and it seems no lessons were learnt. Someone should have been assigned to the Czech guy for the whole match. Mark him out of the game.

I'm still convinced AM is the man but he seems more like BD each week.

It's very much a mental thing....but AM is mental...in the wrong way.

1. " If you think AM is going to take us to the promised land, your delusional.

2. When Billy came there was an instant improvement."

Gandy:

1. Delusional? Are you psychic, do you know the future?
I think we need to stick with what we have. Give the man a chance and bring his new players in...jeez.

2. Not quite. It was touch and go, all the way. Not instant at all. We gave BD a chance even though we had a very slow start the following season, after we bought 7 new players. AM is almost where BD was then but in a better position. Give it time, son. Otherwise, what do you suggest, another sacking?

Chill.

Original Reds. One thing I definitely can't be accused of is fickleness - I've been against AM from the start and can't see him changing my mind, even though I hope he will. You say give him time to bed in, but the owners bought him for immediate improvement. As misguided as that may be, all we've done is go downhill since he came in. A win against a poor Peterborough, and a draw against a Derby team that we should have easily beaten on the day, and people were saying he was turning it around. He wasn't. How many games has he had now? A month is long enough to have at least started to make an impact, but he's actually taken us backwards.

Still, my comment wasn't aimed at you but in general. I work as a consultant to make many business' better. I, need at least (allow myself) a month to get a picture of what I need to do/how things work. As a minimum. If at that point, early, I was allowed to make changes...excellent. Otherwise, go with the punches. 4 games/month isn't anywhere near along enough for anything, in the real World. Do you expect to know everything about your new job in your few weeks there?

Original Reds

To back up my argument about King Billy making a good start, id like to state a FACT.

We won 3 games on the trot after came to us. To me that's what i call instant....no excuses....just Billy having the ability to get the most out of the players that were already there.

Personally i would have liked to see Harry Redknapp at the City Ground, but that was never really going to happen.

We won 3 games on the trot after Cotterill came in Gandy ... so would you want him back?

One thing I don't understand is AM's handling and almost nonchalant dismissal of Lee Camp. I thought Camp would get into most Championship sides. Could AM have handled it better or has Camp created problems? What's gone on there?

Camp wasn't going to sign a new contract, so AM got rid. His form had been too inconsistent for too long as well, probably because he wanted to leave to play in thePrem.

I hear ya Hoons....but did Cotterill ever go on a 18-match unbeaten run including 10 wins, 5 of which came successively???

Billy did.

OR - In some ways I agree with you, it takes time to get used to a new job, sure. But in football, it's slightly different - there are many many examples of managers coming in and making pretty rapid improvements. If we'd stayed the same under AM, I wouldn't mind so much, but we have got worse. Surely nobody should come into a job and make things worse for a month, that's not how it works. You get bought into a job because you are at least competent enough to keep things running smoothly.
The main problem is not really AM's though, it's the owners. They made a very very misguided step with SOD's sacking and replacement - unless they had someone of real quality ready to replace SOD, then any manager swap at that stage was probably gonna be a mistake.
