There is no doubt about it that Houston leaving Tannadice brings the end of an Era between himself and Mr Levein, and although things have not went well this season and Houston and Levein should and I think probably will be remember for the good things they done at Tannadice. Not the fact that we haven't won at home since August this season say.
Theres no doubt in my mind that over the last 6 season DUFC along with Motherwell have been the most consistent teams in the SPL outwith the Old Firm, and I'm sure a lot non Utd fans would find this point hard to argue.
Its also been, I believe our most successful spell outside of the Jim McLean years, and all this was done whilst reducing our debt by a third. These things should not be forgotten, and although this season has turned sour (for whatever reason) I'm going to remember the last 6 seasons as good times.
We've been treated with some games, results and even silverware over this Era, 2 cup finals (one win ) epic penalty shoot out semi final. Finishing 5th, 5th, 3rd, 4th, and 4th 5 seasons running. 3 European adventures all be it relatively short, but none the less decent away result in Greece and two credible home performances too.
Also some great results against the Old Firm, its always a big thing for non firm fans and Ive seen my mood lightened when DUFC have had a bad day/weekend but someone else has turned over one of the 'big two' cue Sunday. The 2-1 home win over Celtic, the first one in a very long time, and we've done it since too, not to mention numerous good results against Rangers, both home and away and both in league and cup.
Outside of these results there is plenty of other sparkling performances to be remembered, last seasons 6 game winning run in which we closed 21 points on Hearts. The 4-0 demolition of Motherwell, 4-2 at Hibs and lets not forget 4 beating of Dundee scoring 12 and only losing 1, I could go on..............
And lets not forget the talent we've seen emerge from Tannadice aswell, United you could argue produce the most talented youngsters in the country, Goodwillie, Russell, Allan and Armstrong to name a few and a whole host ready to step up now, and theres also the gems we've found in the lower leagues, Conway, GMS, Swanson and Gomis for starters.
So I'd just like to say thanks to Mr Houston and Mr Levein It saddens me a little that this Era is over, although it did seem as if it had run its course and with all the cuts being made at Tannadice Houston should probably have taken a cut too, but I wish him all the best, and I'm glad he's stepped down and this has not dragged on till May. I think Houston and Levein have left us in a good position and if we get the right man in the next era can be as good maybe even better. So I'd just like to say thanks for the memories Houstie and Levein
Whats your highlight (outside of the cup win) too obvious!! Of the last era, I'll take the games I was at as mine probably the 5-1 win at St Johnstone, 2-1 home win over Celtic, 4-0 Daly demolition of Motherwell and very entertaining 2-2 against Rangers. There is bigger highlights out there, ie the cup wins over Rangers but I'm sticking to games I was at for my highlights
The End of an Era.

AK, was Leveins first game not a 2-1 win over rangers?? Then Houstons was the 7-1 drubbing at Ibrox!! Will this possibly be the 3rd manager in a row to start with Rangers
Leveins might have been Killie right enough, but I'm sure Rangers must have been very early on, anyway to keep the sequence going it'll have to be another win or at least a draw

Houston's first game was a 0-0 home draw with Killie on boxing day 2009

AK, wasn't Levein's first game in charge a win over the old Rangers? I seem to remember Lee Mair scoring in that one (!)
Highlight of Levein's reign has to be 2-1 v Celtic at Tannadice. 8 of us came up from London for that one, and we were regretting it til about 5 minutes to go.
Highlight of Houston's spell, either the cup final or the 2nd leg QF win over the old Rangers. Terrible game but hilarious outrage from the Rangers fans afterwards. Remember one of them ranting at us that we only tried against them. So funny.

Barca, that was a great game, especially singing 'Robson what the score' & 'were gonna win the league' brilliant

Good article westcoastarab,
Despite our criticisms of Houston he's gone now and we can look to the future.
If we're going for personality then I doubt if Pressley would make the shortlist but football wise whk knows.
Alec Smith and dare I say it Levein appear to rate him.
Thompson is well aware that whoever he appoints will be there for 2/3 years so has to be the right choice.
And we can only assume he's done his homework and taken good advise.

Shedboy, I don't think we've been left in too bad a position, it's still well within our reach to get a European spot, and the big game at the weekend is the perfect chance for the new man to set the standards

Westcoastarab,
What if we don't make top 6.
What if Houston has been right all the time and it has been the players, the referees etc to blame.
And we hounded the man.

Shedboy, I'll be taking no blame whatsoever if that happens
And you'll owe me a pint
