King and County

This has very little to do with football, fretwork, phrenology, or other subjects that are regularly discussed on this board. However, since Huddersfield Town describes itself as ‘The Yorkshire Club’, and there is a cup replay against Leicester City on the horizon, I consider the time is right to make an appeal for all good Tykes to come to the aid of the county.

An e-petition has been launched, calling for the recently discovered remains of King Richard III to be interred at York Minister. Without consulting the people of God’s own county, the powers that be at the finest Gothic Cathedral in Northern Europe have stated that the Minster "...commends Richard to Leicester's care".

Richard III, Shakespeare’s “son of York", the last king of the House of York, and the last of the Plantagenet dynasty, lived for some time at Middleham Castle, in Wensleydale. He received the Lordship of Middleham in 1471. It was there that he met his future wife, Anne Neville (Warwick the Kingmaker’s daughter), and where their only son, Edward, was born, and died.

Richard III funded the fourth floor of Monk Bar, York's 14th Century gateway, and the Richard III museum can be found within its walls.

The terms of the exhumation licence mean the king's remains will be reinterred at Leicester Cathedral unless a legal challenge against it is mounted.

uncle,,
if the people that run the country start showing any pride in it, then i might join in...
national identity is now a "forbidden" aspiration...
moving some bones about aint gonna help...
I suggest the left wing lobby will start calling persons involved in the campaign rude names fairly shortly..
The national press and government spokespeople were more than a bit annoyed that "yorkshire" would have come 7th at the olympics!!!!!!!
maybe we should look for independance or just join scotland for the lower prices on just about everything???

Since he was born at Fotheringhay Castle , Nr Peterborough, Northamptonshire, surely this is where he should be laid to rest and not in Leicester or Yorkshire.

You surprise me. I thought that you would be one of the last people to surrender meekly.

Nobody can be exactly like me. Sometimes even I have trouble doing it, but I persist.

When it comes to 'rivalry' between two counties, and promotes interest in Cricket, RL, Darts and whatever Fine,
When we start to rake up centuries old Hog wash of two factions..Power mad Families who's only intention was 'control', gained by the divide & conquer method of the lower population...FORGET IT.

The Bar stud wasn't a 'Yorkie' anyway.
The other 'right Henry' was a Taff !
Battles were fought nation wide...
Many 'Yorkie' towns fought for the Tudors..Some Lancs towns did the reverse

It's ALL meaningless.
A waste of time.
(now as a 'Nation' we are looking at Mali/Niger...& so it goes on)

But !
I have a great feeling about this one................
2-0 Town.

“So Town play up, and bring the cup,
Back to Huddersfield.
We’re Yorkshire!
We’re Yorkshire!”

… but only in name, apparently.

That’s a large pity!
