I’ve said all season I don’t think our squad is strong enough. I think Pearson has done a great job in getting rid of over-paid rubbish that our previous incumbent purchased and also in building a pretty decent starting 11. Infact I think we have a pretty decent 12/13 players but after this we look very average.
Last night proved this, but also indicated a lack of professionalism that has really griped me – which has annoyed me even more with Konchesky’s sarcastic tweet last night. I don’t boo players, I don’t boo during a game, I support and I encourage – but sometime at the end of a poor performance the frustration has got the better of me I will give a jeer, but that is when the game is finished. This club has a fantastic support, just look at the away crowds at Huddersfield and Peterborough – football isn’t cheap and so when you get under par performances with a real lack of effort then you have a right to be annoyed. I don’t mind losing if we have given everything – you can’t pick and choose what games you win and lose, moral is built over good steady performances. I don’t believe the players went out to lose but I do believe the effort and commitment last night was not acceptable.
This is the best chance of promotion we will have in years. The league is average but teams coming down next season will be strong and there are a few under performers in the championship this season that will be better next year. With the loan window open I just hope Pearson will address the fact that our fringe isn’t good enough and sign someone who can actually battle in the midfield and perhaps some more experience to a young ish squad.
This is not a negative post, a bit of a rant, some frustration but a call to Nige to go and freshen up the squad with a couple of loan signings…
The Squad

I wouldn't say it was lack of effort or commitment. Some key players like Morgan, De Laet, Konch and in particular Nugent looked tired. Disappointed to lose because I wanted to see how we'd match up against the likes of Wigan. But, we have the weekend off now and it gives the players an opportunity to freshen up.
Lets quickly move on and concentrate on the main objective

I'm all for moving on - provided that the necessary lessons have first been learned. Nothing I heard Pearson say last night suggested to me that they are being. Although he professed to be disappointed, I suspect that he is unsurprised, and pretty content, to be out of the Cup. I'm certainly not.
