if utd can dominate madrid's midfield then we have a good chance of beating them, the question is who to put in the midfield that can stop the likes of ozil, khedira? but also that would depend on the formation and tactics, shud utd playing attacking football or counter attacking?
hopefully fergie will get it right on the night
midfield and tactics against real madrid

Valencia shouldn't even be on the bench. Especially now that Nani has been decent for the last 2 games.
----
He was good against Reading and QPR. Two teams that sat back. Real will attack so playing Nani won't be a good move

I like Kagawa's line up but fully expect to see Valencia in there (and possible Giggs...)

No he wouldn't. Nani tracks back and does a job

Agreed. I think there is a misconception that because Nani is a skillful European winger, he will not protect his full back. In actual fact, he does a better job of it than Rooney.

Its a tough one. I think Welbeck's a cert to play on the left. I also think we need 3 in the middle. And I dont like seeing Rooney on the right - would much rather have Nani or Young there.
It seems the only option we have then is to drop Rooney. Won't happen, surely?

I can't remember the last time we dominated any team's midfield...

This.
We have been dominated in midfield by teams far below us in the league. I'm not sure how we really expect to stop Real Madrid, they were rampant yesterday and every attack I thought they'd score. 3-0 to Madrid, flattered Barcelona if anything.
We've got a chance but in all honesty, we need to have our goal-scoring boots on. It's a shame we just didn't get that 2nd goal at the Bernabeu.

Agreed about the second goal. Barca were beaten yesterday because they were naive enough to leave gaps at the back when going forward.
Sir Alex was at the game yesterday and i'm sure he noted that on the counter attack Real are at their best.
There's no way we'll take the game to Real when a clean sheet will see us through.

4-3-3 with Carrick, Cleverley and Jones in CM and Kagawa, Nani and RVP in attack.

I'd go for this...
Rooney Jones Carrick Cleverley Welbeck
----------------------RVP-----------------------
(provided Jones is fit)

yea lets play rooney on the right again and watch rafael get slaughtered and concede a few more crosses because of rooney!
nani on the right all the way for me, this myth about his not tracking back is Bull crap

Not sure who I'd go with for this game but this is what I think SAF will opt for:
De Gea
Rafael/Ferdinand/Vidic or Evans/Evra
Jones/Carrick
Nani/Rooney/Welbeck
RVP
We should get a reasonably good idea of who might start on Tuesday when the team for Norwich is released.

No he wouldn't. Nani tracks back and does a job. He's also a much better winger than Rooney is. There's this really lazy thing that goes which suggests Nani can't start big games because he doesn't offer enough defensively. We're Manchester United! Not some bunch of jokers.
We need to set up to win. Not go all guns blazing, but we need to play some attacking football, too. My team would be very disciplined bearing in mind it contains three central midfielders
--------------------
Nani does track back
He did plenty of that at the weekend
Nani----Carrick-----Clevs-----Young
---------------Rooney------------------
---------------RVP-----------------------
Is what I'd want to see but I'm expecting Welbeck and Kags to be shoehorned and maybe even Ando for Clevs
