And dogged midfielder thanks fans for their support
CLAUDIO Yacob insists he has been more than happy to do the dirty work to help Albion thrive this term while others grab the headlines.
The summer signing from Argentina has quietly gone about his business with his dogged displays in the Baggies engine room in his first season in England.
But he is glad his efforts have not gone unnoticed by the fans, who have created a chant for the No.5.
“I don’t catch the attention like players such as Lukaku and Long," said Yacob.
“I don’t score goals because that’s not my role – but I think my function is very important to help the team achieve their overall goal.
“Scoring goals is the aim of the match but it’s not the most important thing.
“I’m over the moon that I’m well thought of and I feel I want to give it back to the supporters as much as I can.
“I’m very happy and I like the song the fans have made up for me."
The former Racing Club de Avellaneda star has no intention of letting up on the field over the final eight games as Steve Clarke’s eighth-placed side look to finish off the season in style.
“The players and the coach’s mentality is not just to relax now," he added.
“We want to fight for something better."
Yacob is also enjoying life off the field and remains dedicated to his English lessons.
“The better my English gets the closer I get to the players," he said.
“I can now have short conversations.
“It’s very important I can mingle with the players and feel more comfortable.
“I like talking to the younger players because I realise how important it is for them to talk to me.
“It also gives me the chance to practice my English because they will be very patient.
“I’m very happy with all the players because they look after me.
“They include me as much as they can – everyone is very kind."

Claudio Yacob happy to do the 'dirty work'

What a player, what a man, what a signing.
Our 3rd best player this season behind only Lukaku and McAuley.
His partnership with Mulumbu is immense.

Revelation.
The article made the point that its more the national media who underrate him. Pretty much every Albion fan knows how important he is. Its pretty sad and pathetic that Peter Odemwingie driving to London stays in the news for weeks yet they ignore the actual footballers. Some commentators can't even pronounce this guys name properly. (Jacoff being my personal favourite).
This time last year we had Keith Andrews playing there. With all due respect to him, Yacob is different gravy.
Progress.

Agree Teix.
Gary Neville did an excellent piece on his and Mulumbu's partnership on Monday Night Football.
And he's been linked to United in the press so not totally unnoticed by the media I suppose but you're right he has for the most part gone under the radar.
Only good for us though. More likely to keep him that way.
You only have to look at Lukaku's recent press and how unlikely it looks like he'll be returning.

I do think he deserves a better song though
'Hes magic' doesn't really catch on the same way the McAuley, Popov and Mulumbu songs do.
He and Shane Long deserve better songs
