Let's be honest, the reason it happens is because too many of us are not willing to take a stand and do something about it. We accept that there is a small minority of fans that take part in racist abuse, and I accept that it takes a lot to stand up to them, but unfortunately we live in a society where a lot of people are wary to get involved. The 'majority' of fans could advise stewards / police, but fans tend not to bother. It's easy to talk about doing the right thing, but at the moment it's all words and little action.

If the majority of fans truely felt appalled and wanted to get rid of racist fans, then they could do so, but let's be honest, how many of us have heard something and actually reported it?

No, they should stay on the pitch. I don't for a second condone racism but, they should rise above it whilst on the pitch and get on with the game, be the bigger men. They can lodge complaints to the appropriate authorities afterwards, whether it be the club, the police or the FA.

To say the entire team should walk off is ridiculous, thousands of people pay their hard earned money to watch the game so why should it be ruined for them!?

It's just a small minority that are racially abusing players, the clubs should be banning those offenders for life. Eventually they'll be weened out and hopefully any racists left would learn to keep their mouths shut.

Point deduction should be given to the team whose fans chant racist songs etc.

I reckon we would only need ten of us to get together and we could get Liverpool relegated

At a glance you have no commented on the site since Feb. The is not a snowballs chance in hell we would therefore multi-board a racism discussion article, that it is safe to say had almost no effort put into it and bring the excess moderation workload onto ourselves.

OP, do you feel that this article is racist by singling out black players and suggesting they should react differently to other races, or indeed suggesting racism is only applicable to black players.

I'd go with Barry's sprinting off the pitch. He makes a good point

They should be given a machine gun and allowed to shoot the racist chanters.

Now, on a serious note, I think it should be that they stay on, let the ref know. And then the Ref can talk to the captains and/or managers. Who in-turn can talk to their own fans. If it carries on the ref should call off the match or have the police/stewards evacuate the area the hanting is coming from. Those then convicted be banned for life.

They can walk off if they wish. UEFA and FIFA really couldn't care less, so it's probably got to a stage where the players think walking off will prove more of a point, as opposed to a 10 grand fine to clubs that do nothing about their creepy, Kappa covered, denim flared wearing Eastern European 'fans'

I thought the above idea whereby the players inform the referee who can then make a decision if the chants are audible to then end the game, is a good idea. If there's no football match then there can be no racism at them. But if they want to walk off, which they're entitled to - (their money doesn't mean a thing) - then they have my backing. The governing bodies quite simply want to sweep the issue under the carpet.

Re the hypothetical game in progress, what would happen to the match result if one player who was being abused by the opposition walked off, followed by his team mates, and the other team which was winning stayed on the pitch?
Has to be thought about. Just in case.
