Rangers bidding for Goodie was a non-story.
The player's preference was always a move to an EPL club, and if Rangers were actually serious they would have matched United's valuation earlier in the week in order to get the opportunity to at least speak to the player.
Even then, I doubt that Rangers would've been able to match the personal terms Blackburn were prepared to offer.
IMO, the series of bids by Rangers were a smokescreen to make it look like they were chasing talent to strengthen their squad. If you are really serious about signing a player, why on earth would you table bids well below the level of a bid that has been accepted? It just doesn't make any sense at all!
The only logical conclusion is that Rangers were NOT serious about signing the player but wanted to give the impression that they were involved in the bidding. Thus, they ensured that all their bids were well below the asking price.
The one exception was their last bid - by which time Rangers must have known that Goodie was more than half-way through a medical down in Blackburn and well on his way to signing for them.
The Rangers fans need to wise up to this Whyte character, as early indications are that he is all mouth and no action. Another Calum Melville type character perhaps?
As for the player and the greater good (i.e. Scotland). Playing in the EPL against better defenders week-in-week out will be a welcome challenge for Goodie who wants to reach his full potential. The EPL environment will push him to improve on his game.
A striking partnership with Jelavic would have been pretty awesome in the SPL, and no doubt a mouth-watering prospect for Rangers fans. But at the end of the day, this environment would not have pushed the player to improve and reach his potential.
IMO, Rangers loss is a long-term gain for Craig Levien & the national side team.
I look forward to seeing the player develop at Blackburn and featuring in the Scotland team.

Rangers bid around the 2 million up front did they not?
pete houston said bids were the same but rangers add ons were not as good on sunday and that was before 2 more bids on monday apparently
if they don't want to sell to us then fine.if i was them i would prefer hi to go to england
if goodwillie really wanted to come to us he would have told dundee utd he wasn't going to blackburn and i'm pretty sure dundee utd would have sold him to us if the bids were similar
i think he will be lucky to get 5 goals in that league he's not a bad player but i think you have to be better than him to play and score a lot of goals in that league

barcanil - of course utd can change their mind and get more money. I responded to an arab saying if gers had paid their 2m in the 1st place, we would have got him. All i said was utd moved the goalposts. Which you then admit they did. Whats the problem?

You still wouldn't have got him,
HE DIDN'T WANT TO SIGN FOR YOU.

There isn't a problem, we are absolutely delighted with the deal and I have no complaints whatsoever.
I suppose the obvious question is "what are you moaning about?".

was just stating fact. Utd moved the goalposts, which after i slowly explained to you arabs, you now agree with me.

Not really, your evidence was that he went for 2.8 and we had asked for 2.
We asked for 2 up front as a minimum and that's what we got. Rangers didn't produce that til it was too late.
No doubt we'd have moved the goalposts if we'd had to, but it turns out Rangers are such a shambles nowadays that we didn't have to.
Happy days.

no, utd asked for 2m. He went for 2m AND add ons.
Getting tedious now. Proofs in the pudding!
