The Striker Situation

Afternoon all, hope you're all enjoying your bank holiday.

Just been reading a few articles on here and the majority are about our strikers and who we should bring in. IMO the defence is just as much of an issue for us to sort out but I'll leave that for another day.

My point is that I think we're making the hunt for a striker too difficult for ourselves, believe it or not there are strikers out there who we could afford who would actually improve us! It seems as though everyone is looking for that perfect striker who holds the ball up every single time, wins every header, has pace and scores every chance. He simply doesn't exist, but there's plenty out there who are better than what we have.

Despite how last season ended, we managed to bring in a brilliant young manager who won the Portuguese league, going the whole season unbeaten. One of the worlds top goalkeepers who has won the French league. A great, combative midfielder in Dembele, and we now have one of the most sought after players in world football. Why is it so difficult to find a striker in the same mould? For years on end it's been one of our downfalls, and for some reason it's been ignored when there are players out there who fit the bill.

Forget Leandro, Either Sturridge or Ba in January would have breathed new life into us going into that tough part of the season, and there's no reason why we couldn't have got either IMO. January 2012 was exactly the same.

Looking forward now, Benteke stands out as a player we could get who would improve us immensely. Young, frightening, great in the air, seems to be good with both feet, only going to get better in a position where we need those qualities most. He's even had that adjusting season in the prem where he's missed chances which he will score next season. We should be going all out for him!

Think they did pay big money for his potential, was it £20 million? I'd happily have him or Dzeko if either was allowed to leave. If Mourinho chooses to give Lukaku his chance then I guess Ba would maybe be available as a cheaper option.

Jackson Martinez would be nice but dealing with Porto again......??? Aubameyang or Bony could be worth a punt if the price is reasonable but I'd love Lukaku or Dzeko.

We couldn't get Sturridge cos Roman wouldn't have sold to AVB. Chelsea came in for Ba.. he was always going there.

Agree on Bony - his scoring record speaks for itself. Even if he came over here and got 10 in his first season the 10m or so rumoured is a bargain.

Lukaku would be the perfect signing, however

Just a quick scout of the top goal scorers in the dutch league, after Wilfred Bony there's Graziano Pellè and Alfreð Finnbogason who have scored 27 and 24 respectively. Finnbogason has more potential and is the youngest of the three. Also, he plays for the Icelandic national side, so him and Siggy could form a good pairing no?

Must be a lot going on behind the curtains at Spurs right now.
Yes, the search for new strikers and off loading Defoe and ADE.
But keeping Bale must be taking some effort.
And looking for a new LB.
And worrying if Sandro will be fit, and stay fit.
And trying to get Holtby to get into top form.
Lot of dust in Levy's office ATM.

Andreas Cornelius is the way forward. Check him out people. That is all

Aspas would be a good cheap signing

As doo doos states aspas would be a very good signing and would be pretty cheap considering celta vigos circumstances. He has a temper on him though which is his only issue.

For me if we could get michu for around 8-10 mill.

For a player who has never played up front before this season the boy knows how to lead the line. He would be a perfect foil for a 4-5-1 in the last moments of games we are winning 1-0. Works so hard and has a touch of a berbatov.

Most headed goals in the premier league and most goals scored from set pieces to which would help immensely.
