Xbox One needs to connect every 24 hrs

Microsoft has confirmed that users will have to connect to the internet every 24 hours.

Not only is this a joke that you have to in the first place, but wouldn't that then mean you NEED to be paying for Xbox Live to use games on the Xbox One?

Microsoft explained on Thursday that while the console did not have to be online to play, it did need to connect at least once every 24 hours.

The company said: "You can game offline for up to 24 hours on your primary console, or one hour if you are logged on to a separate console accessing your library.

"Offline gaming is not possible after these prescribed times until you re-establish a connection, but you can still watch live TV and enjoy Blu-ray and DVD movies."

Playstation please don't incorporate this, this is worse than not being able to use PS3 and older games on the PS4.

I've probably played one or two ps2 games in the last 7 years, being able to play old games doesn't bother me one bit, it's called looking after your old consoles, which I do.

Also second hand games? I always buy them new anyway, again that is not much of an issue for me.

But always having to log in to use games? No way

Interesting read to people saying they are fine about the internet:

And an interesting comment posted on the site:
"CYPHER-NEO / 7 HOURS AGO
When Windows XP was released, Microsoft servers got over-stressed by the updater looking for updates every 24 hours. The update servers were so slow that in a few cases users needed months to download a simple update!

When Windows Vista was released, Microsoft's new online DRM was field tested. The idea: Vista had to go online and check when installed to make sure the serial key was genuine when first installed, and occasionally throughout the life of the system when prompted to by various updates. Too many computers calling home when Vista was first installed; cue major server crash #2. Too many computers calling home when every Genuine Advantage update was released; cue major server crashes # 3,4,5,6,7,8... etc...

Then there was the group that hacked Microsoft servers looking for Vista serial keys, and Hotmail passwords. During a 24-30 day period, every Microsoft servers was sluggish, unresponsive, and openly hostile. Along with all the hacked keys, thousands of genuine serial keys (bought and paid for) were black-listed unintentionally by Microsoft because computers would request to call home for a Genuine Advantage update, and the server black-listed the user instead.

Windows 7? Slow servers throughout the rocky history of that release.

Xbox One. You're telling me the servers are suddenly going to start working, and not only work, but be fast enough to handle daily requests by millions of gamers!? LOL! I doubt MicroSLOTH can pull that off for very long."

Xbox one may just become the biggest flop in console gaming history, Microsoft keep shooting themselves in the foot. PS3 just have to be consistent and they will rake in the majority of the sales, I would buy a Wii U over the xbox one as well. Don't forget when they shut off the servers for xbox one the console will become useless forcing people to buy into the next generation

Microsoft seem to be bending over backwards to look incompetent and unappealing.

I will avoid any console which doesn't allow you to play 2nd hand games or which insists you connect to the internet every 24 hours.

As a firm Playstation user, it's a little weird seeing all this hate for the Xbox

I loved xbox 360 but left for PC gaming last year, was thinking of getting next gen xbox to play with friends but it looks abysmal. Microsoft has done everything they can to make their console look awful, I am just staying away from consoles now.

myhammers reading your comment made me think of an interesting question - you can sell your game on once.........so who will know and how? You will need the shop assistant to log onto a server of the publishers to check to see who owns the game, cos of course people wont know or try their luck? If this is the case get ready for 4 hr long queues when people try to sell 2nd hand games!

Simon, at this point in time, you can only sell (or just give) second hand games to someone whose been on your friends list for at least 30 days, and only once as you said.

So whilst in practice this means second hand games can be done, they are extremely limited, and cannot be sold through retailers.

As well as this, they have said is that "Third party publishers may opt in or out of supporting game resale and may set up business terms or transfer fees with retailers," so some games may not be allowed to be resold anyway, and those that are may charge you for doing so, even though XBOX won't.

So very limited.

All the info is here that I stated.

Sony's suggested as much before, but now always-online has definitively been ruled out for PlayStation 4.

"Did we consider it? No, we didn't consider it," Sony's affable Shuhei Yoshida, president of Sony Worldwide Studios, told GameInformer magazine (read by Gaming Everything).

"The main reason being that many countries don't have robust internet connections. It makes sense for people to have internet connections to play online games, but for offline games there are many countries that we saw do not really have robust internet."

Back when PlayStation 4 was revealed, Shuhei Yoshida told Eurogamer that "oh yes, yes, you can go offline totally" - "You can play offline, but you may want to keep it connected."

I think it's time a new player entered the games console market. Sony and Microsoft are clearly abusing their position and taking full advantage of the lack of competition.

Plenty have tried to go up against Microsoft and Sony, and failed.

I found my old Dreamcast this weekend.
