Baldini, Kinnear, Begiristain..

Morning guys and girls

So, directors of football - good or bad?

It seems to be the way the game is going, with old-school managers like Harry being replaced with Head Coaches, charged with getting the best from a squad given to them.

City, like Chelsea, are now firmly in the habit of buying players without a manager in place. Great if it works, but mistakes can prove costly and can potentially ruin a player's career.

Comolli got us Bale but also paid 16m for Bentley and eventually cost Jol his job. Levy seems set on the idea, so what do we think?

Personally I think as long as the Head Coach is signed on that basis, and the relationship with the board is good it gets business done, freeing up the coach to do the vital work on the training pitch.

What say you

I like the DoF idea personally, but not entirely sure on Baldini. Not sure why, just gut feeling at present. What's his track record? What's his selling point? Why were Roma happy to cancel his contract?

I'd like Hoddle back in some capacity personally.

Baldini by all accounts is well respected with a mountain of knowledge regarding players etc, so he should be ideal for us.

Comolli knew nothing about football or players, he just had a scatter gun approach to transfers and often paid way over the odds for ordinary players. Occasionally he got it right but much of the time he wasted money on 5hyte.

Lets hope Baldini knows what he is doing.

is that true though? much of the squad that has been relatively successful over the last couple of seasons was assembled by commolli

Chronic - he was only at Roma a year, no? Didn't he leave England with Capello in 2012?

It seems a bit of a step in to the unknown for me, and a little worrying Roma let him go without a fuss. I'd rather see someone with a track record of success with our model - the fella at Porto i'd be far more comfortable with. Proven track record of signing potential that bears fruit regularly. Not sure who runs the Ajax equivalent but again that's a conveyor belt of talent there.

I suppose it can't be much worse than it is, and it isn't Joe Kinnear. Suck it and see.

Interesting bit on a spurs blog about Baldini.. seems Roma's been a bit of a joke club the last few years.. and he's responsible for selling 'pool Borini
