directors of football - good thing as long as they are on the same page as the chairman and manager

I can't get my head around it at all. How is a head coach/manager whatever you like to call it expected to build a team if he doesnt have the say on what players to target?

It must be a case where he gives the DOF the list of targets and then they busy themselves with trying to sort it out.

DoF is the only way to guarantee young coaches get given a chance at larger clubs. If we kept the traditional 'manager does all' system. People would be moaning Young british managers don't get given a chance...blah blah blah.

With a DoF. A Club can keep its transfer policy in tact whilst taking the odd risk on younger talented coaches.

If we don't this you'll simply have the same ol' manager merry go round we had in the late 90s etc.

Hodgson, Dalglish, Keegan, Redknapp, etc

From what look like has said, I think it would be that Baldini wouldn't need AVBs permission. But like Chronic says, hopefully they are on the same page and talk to each other and bring in some lovely players for us

I wouldnt look back.

Basically it is a way to look even more fancy then before.

Before a team could go 'we are better than you as we have a better manager'. Now a team can say 'we are better than you, yes you may have the better manager but we have a DOF, and are thus better'

I like the DoF idea personally, but not entirely sure on Baldini. Not sure why, just gut feeling at present. What's his track record? What's his selling point? Why were Roma happy to cancel his contract?

I'd like Hoddle back in some capacity personally.

cant remember where but i found a list of players he has recruited through his career so far... very very impressive...

Baldini by all accounts is well respected with a mountain of knowledge regarding players etc, so he should be ideal for us.

Comolli knew nothing about football or players, he just had a scatter gun approach to transfers and often paid way over the odds for ordinary players. Occasionally he got it right but much of the time he wasted money on 5hyte.

Lets hope Baldini knows what he is doing.

is that true though? much of the squad that has been relatively successful over the last couple of seasons was assembled by commolli

Chronic - he was only at Roma a year, no? Didn't he leave England with Capello in 2012?

It seems a bit of a step in to the unknown for me, and a little worrying Roma let him go without a fuss. I'd rather see someone with a track record of success with our model - the fella at Porto i'd be far more comfortable with. Proven track record of signing potential that bears fruit regularly. Not sure who runs the Ajax equivalent but again that's a conveyor belt of talent there.

I suppose it can't be much worse than it is, and it isn't Joe Kinnear. Suck it and see.

Interesting bit on a spurs blog about Baldini.. seems Roma's been a bit of a joke club the last few years.. and he's responsible for selling 'pool Borini
