If the Xbox One flopps....

Do you think Microsoft will think about pulling back the changes (e.g. calling in every 24 hours) they have made for their console?

Or will they stick with it with some minor changes?

Looking at Windows 8 and the start button fiasco, it seems they aren't really willing to make the change. And if they do, it is only superficial.

The "Old fashioned" start button that removes half a dozen extra clicks that you now need to do in 8. And the tiles are only good for "dumb" end users. Windows 8 is the same as an iOS O/S not designed to be changed and a pain in the ar$e for any type of advanced use.

No shortcuts work on windows 8 like they use to,

alt + F4,
Windows +U
Windows+L

Its nonsense. so long winded to get to control panel and do anything you need too.

Why was this a problem?

All you have to do is download a software, there are free ones out there, that will bring back the old style start button.

I spent 2 days with the Metro interface, seemed nice, but ended up going back to the old way due to some annoying things on Metro.

The option to replace your start button is already there.

No it doesn't, if you set up your tabs there is no extra effort.

However taking 10 minutes out to actually have a play with windows 8 and figure out how to get it to work quickly for you is 10 more minutes than the average idiot is willing to take before going on the internet and screaming START BUTTON at any forum they can find.

My "Chinese" copy of Windows 7 packed up on me just after 8 was released so I took the plunge went to pc world and got myself a copy of 8. Its not the best operating system ever however it is perfectly functional and quick and easy to use.

To be honest I doubt ill ever buy another OS again after it, 10 years ago flat screen monitors were top end, now you get them on every pc and in shops cheap as chips, the same thing will happen with touch screen monitors, and when it does ill have an operating system that I like and can use with them.

Windows 8 works beautifully well on a tablet.

Matty, from a design and interface point of view, if something takes 10 mins to sort out then its a failure. The UI is suppose to be simple and quick. MS screwed up here.

The end user wants some to use right now, not take time out to learn some thing that they could do previously faster.

Besides, you don't get iOS on Mac computers.

Matty i am talking beyond normal end users - hence i said "dumb" end user in which they do not need or want to go beyond what 8 does well. There is nothing overly wrong with the metro interface on either tablet or normal monitor but from the tech side of things vs 7 and Server it can be an ass and a hassle. Though 7 started this trend with some ott security that after years still does my nut in.

If you can't be bothered spending ten minutes doing the demo then you don't deserve an internet connection.

Its a totally new piece of software.

It is simple and quick, dead simple and quick.

And to be honest i am rounding up anyway, it took me less than a minute to figure out where all the basics were, i just said ten as their really are some stupid people out there.

The Metro UI with a mouse and keyboard is crap.

Mattyp (U8926) an OS like Windows needs to cater for the ''dumb" user as Simon West put it. That is what made the iOS a hit as it caters for ''dumb" users. It is also why OS like the many Linux distrubutions out there don't get a look in when they are less bloatware and have improved their UI since it first started (that and games and software available - but games and software will follow if the Linux can get more users).
