- Both 21
- Both regular England Under 21 Internationals
- Both have 1 solitary England Senior Cap
- Both were on long long term contracts.
Yet we get 5 Million (for an attacking midfielder - they generally go for more money than defenders) and yet Spurs get 8 Million. Yes I know you only get what ever someone is willing to pay for a player + Spurs have the Levy factor (love him or hate him he does get top dollar)...
However this comparison still reminded me that we have never been very good at getting top dollar for fringe/unwanted players. I do think its about long term planning and building assets up. I think Shelvey should have been loaned out within the premiership last year. Then we would have been surely looking at a better more confident player with a higher value. In general apart from torres and maybe Carrol our transfer outs tend to leave me thinking we got a raw deal. Probably a combination of reasons for this but Reina's eventual exit transfer fee & Skrtel's will probably be too more examples of this 'Raw Deal'. (Love that movie btw).

The majority of list actually backs up my point extremely small sums. - Generally a bargain picked up for the buying team (on paper).
Warnock especially - 1.2 Million???, he had not that long ago been given a couple of England caps in a position England were very short on, like Shelvey I feel we didn't even get an English premium on his price.
More recent examples of Aquilani 7million , and even worse IMO Meireles 12 Million (to a rival team and after having such an impressive 1st season + football writers players of the year). For 500k More than we bought him. - 'RAW DEAL'.

OP, I think you just vastly overrate your players.
Warnock was/is crap so that fee is justified.
Meirelles went for a bit more than you paid for him after one season. His fee wasn't going to go up all that much, especially at his age.
And Aquilani, well, he wasn't very good for Liverpool, Milan or Juve and has injury problems and was getting a bit older. So once again, fee is justified.

Spot on again, Rap.
Teams are never likely to get much for fringe players because they are fringe players for a reason: they aren't very good.

Many of our fans have a weird obsession with money.
We are paying too much! We are not getting paid enough! We are paying too high wages! We are not paying high enough wages!
I don't think people gave a flying feck about this sort of thing 25 years ago.
The Premier League has created a generation of fans obsessed with money.

righteous, that is very true.

I especially agree with this, and I think Kenny still had the same thought process - hence the money you paid for Adam, Carroll, Downing and Henderson.
Sorry, couldn't resist a little dig.

in fairness here warnock left as a virtual reserve to make some sort of career for himself. he didn't leave as a top player. he worked damn hard over a very long period of time to EARN that England cap.
the club can't ask silly moeny for a guy like that.
the arguement at the start is over vlaue and i would agree that had LFC been more proactive with younger players like shelvey and did deals with the norwiches and wigans of this world for a few loans then these young players would be worth more but more importantly would be better players for us!
I would say that wisdom and kelly should be picked for loans. one or the other.... robinson again needs a loan.
suso is already gone out. we need to dealy on more year on ibe and sterling but one of them needs a loan too.

I think the reason so many of us are worried about the finances is due to how close the cowboys took is to bankruptcy. Once bitten, twice shy and all of that.
