I should say from the start that I'm not an Onions fanboy or a Durham CC member, but you have to feel sorry for him. What message are the selectors sending the lad?
He's taken seriously enough to be called into the squad, has already played Test and Ashes cricket but he's ignored, while in prime form, on his home ground and on a wicket that would suit his bowling to a tee.
What happened to the policy adopted on the last Ashes tour of picking bowlers suited to the conditions?
If you don't pick him now, when and where do you pick him? The Ashes are already retained for facksake!!!!

It was Onions' batting that saved from 1-3 series defeat in our last series in SA. We saved 2 defeats because SA's mighty bowlers could not get rid of Onions.

Shocking decision to stick by bresnan and not pick onions for this test.the Aussies have made bowling changes each test which have worked and shuffled the batting order around to better effect while england have done nothing. Bairstow should also have been dropped, root put back to 6 and Compton or carberry brought in to open.

Benny, couldn't agree more.

I never wanted Root to open. I went for Trott... Both have had a pretty average series though.

I have sympathy for Onions, I think he's a good bowler - who is unfortunate to be around when we have a few to pick from.
But if I were Onions and you aren't being selected at the ground where you're averaging 19's this season you have to wonder whether its worth having another Christmas away from home to not play in Australia.

With 5 wickets here, Broad has confirmed his position for another 5 years.
