ARSENAL IS A FOOTBALL CLUB

Arsenal may be a commercial business , but its primary activity is to be run
as a football club and not property company or a bank.

In recent years there has been a growing impression that the club has taken its eye off the ball and is more concerned about its commercial ventures than its core business.

There is frankly no excuse for what has been going on in the transfer window. The lack of transfer activity is down to the management and a
lack of planning.

Mr Wenger appears to be still in charge of all transfers and if that is the case then you have to ask whether he is still the right person to undertake
this activity.

My view is that the club is in urgent need of recruiting a Football Director
who has the knowledge, contacts and above all the planning skills to deliver top players to club. There is now an overwhelming impression
that Wenger does not have what it takes to do this job.

You need only take a look at the inadequacies of our squad and also the
30 players we are offloading in this transfer window to recognise that something is wrong.

People frequently say Arsenal is run as a business not a football club, but frankly if that were the case then it's a pretty poorly and short-sightedly run business, offering high wages to youngsters, reducing the quality on the pitch and not encouraging success which in turn lowers the attractiveness of the club to potential sponsors etc. So frankly I disagree with that assertion - however clearly the club is not being run very well in many aspects given the state of things.

I did not suggest that the club is well run. Quite the
contrary as a 'football club' it is poorly run.

Also there is nothing to commend if the club keeps on
growing its bank balance if there is no strategy to invest money.

The fact that the club is paying tax as Swiss Ramble
highlights when most other clubs do not is indicative
of poor tax planning.

My real concern is how Arsenal plans its transfer
business. They must have known in January what
were likely to be their requirements and they had 6
months in which to plan before transfer registration opens on 1st July.

When you have money to spend and are not dependent on making disposals first particularly when
only 2 players out of 30 fetch a transfer fee you would
have thought that the club had plenty of time to bring in new players.
