Thoughts on Moyes

In my opinion, the United job was a poison chalice for any manager.

Replicating Ferguson's success, over a such a prolonged period of time, was always going to be a downright impossibility. A new United manager can be extremely successful of course, but at the end of the day, the last word is always likely to be, 'he was no Ferguson'.

Which brings me to Moyes. I predicted this situation. Anyone can now see Ferguson had this group of players punching above their weight. Two points:

1. I don't think Mourinho would be doing much better. They are missing the Fergie magic.
2. Ferguson himself struggled when he first went to United.
3. SAF made this appointment with a view for Moyes to be his successor for 20 years. He's going nowhere.

All in all, I still think Moyes could be the right long-term choice, but United fans are going to need the patience of a saint. My only real criticism of Moyes so far is the transfer window was shambolic for Utd.

I'm prepared to give Moyes time, it was always going to be a Herculean task to take over from Fergie.

But just out of curiosity, what are the odds of Moyes getting the sack before the end of the season? Because a few more performances like that and the "Moyes out" brigade are going to be out in force and making one hell of a racket.

Jose would have had us top of the league.

Like Chelsea are right now.

I said before Moyes came in, that the first manager after Fergie was only ever going to be an "interim" appointment. nobody, realistically, can follow what Fergie did. by putting Moyes in place, whoever follows will be compared to Moyes, rather than to Fergie. suddenly it will be much easier for them.

Moyes will be lucky to last the season out, imo.

I said in the Summer that the appointment has a bit of "Bruce Rioch" about it. By that I mean United have a manager lined up, but they couldn't get him straight away so have got an interim manager.

I wouldn't be surprised to see someone like Klopp come in next year.

I doubt that's the case. Why would we give him a 6 year contract if it were.

DM should have realised that United is a global team. Pressure is not just from the 76 odd thousand in OT but the claimed 600+ million fans. I would have hoped that he would use his first to learn about United's style of play rather than firing everyone and trying to implement his ineffective tactics. If it ain't broke dont fix, just learn to use it.

D'Jeezus has no clue about football. They gave him a 6 year contract for a 1 year interim job .

He might be sacked. But it wasn't part of some plan.

Moyes is out of his depth at United but i dont blame him. I blame the people in charge that decided to give him a 6 year contract. Following SAF was the biggest toughest job in football and even now, 5 months after his appointment is anyone able to tell me what qualifiied him for the job.

With the squad he has we should have performed better than we have so far. Yes the players have to take some of the blame BUT the same players won the league last year so cant be all that bad.

SAF has gone and their isnt another out there but there are however plenty of top managers that could have made the transition easier.

Well, well, well. Moyes gone in a year just like I said.

Shame you didn't realise that 6 year contracts tend to have clauses in them to make it easy to get rid of the under performing manager.

Guess it is RC who knows fack all about anything.
