6th v 9th.
both on 20 points,
& Luton, Like the SHAYMEN...undefeated at home so far !
Luton's last 6 games = 2 draws, 1 loss & 3 wins .
Their last 3 homes =
0-0 v Grimsby.
3-0 v Dartford.
3-2 v Lincoln.
The Shaymen have done well so far this season I reckon, but I think we have to be realistic about this one, & take a defeat on the chin.
We aren't the 'finished product' away from home yet, & these guys have made their home a fortress thus far...(Just like the Shaymen have darn at the Shay)
Luton 3-1 FC Halifax Town
Their danger men are,
Cullen 4
Guttridge 4
Howells 2 plus the young Portuguese kid they have just bought mentioned in the last thread.
They are probably the best supported side in this years conference too..
6,200 v Lincoln which equates to almost 1 in 39 of the population turning out to watch them...
by contrast, We can only muster 1 in 60 () despite a couple of years of success .
So with a 'metro area' pop of 255,000 & 203,000 in the actual Town...Halifax really are playing a 'big club' at this level.
The local demographic is as follows,
54% white.
30% Asian
10% black
6% others... again , taking into account Jimmy Grants haven't overly taken to regular football attendance..Their home gates are quite impressive.
In 2002 it was reputed to be the 'Dirty Town in Britain' The Daily Mail 'claimed Rats fed in Packs'...... And they wonder why people have stopped buying newspapers...
In 1988 they won the league Cup.
Their Carnival is claimed to be the biggest one day 'carnival' in Europe never heard of it mi-sen ?
And Luton airport is one of Britain's largest...more of a London overspill really...That opened in 1938 & was used by the R.A.F. in WWII.
Hat factories galore in the past, hence the nickname..'The Hatters'
(The 4 king info on here is astounding)
also Vauxhall Motors, huge concern years ago..employing 30,000+ at the peak of production...& home of the Vauxhall 'Shovette' ..hence, with quality like that car production ceased in 2002.
The Town is still the headquarters for the Vauxhall Motors ..er ...Head office And they still make vans & commercials.
reight.
I bet yer dint know thiz !!!!
earliest settlement....
250,000 years ago evidence of Paleolithic camps !
The Romans built a Fort/Town at near by Dunstable, but there were only scattered farms in what is now Luton at that time.
Now, we get onto a 'proper' Tale.....
During William the bar Stud's time..'Loitone' was mentioned in the 'DOOM' book !
so about 1100 it was recorded that 700 to 800 folk lived in the Town !
The we move onto ..
King Johnny (The 1st) Young brother of 'Dickie Lionheart' of crusader fame.... Johnny hires a thug ! (mercenary soldier - sic)
Falkes de Breaute no less...he wed a local lass & 'acquired' (yeah right - took more like) his wife's house, that became ..
'Falkes Hall'
over time to be...'Foxhall'...then 'Vauxhall'
For his 'efforts'...more than likely being knocking seven bells out of the locals & keeping them in a state of Fear.. King Johnny 'gave' Falkes the whole Manor !
where upon he built a castle ...like the twwatts did in those days...where he was "allowed to bear his coat of arms",
A Mythical griffin (Dragon if you like)
hence the 'Griffin' on the Vauxhall car badge to this day....
Well 'fork me'..you don't learn this sheet on 'other' chat boards
(waken up Duzza )
Oh, & in 1336, The whole Town burnt darn
Other than that. NOTHING to report.
If TOWN get a draw, I'll be happy with that
So it's ALL darn to you now Duzza, the 'Hordes' that are Shaymen 606's await your match report.
The 'Hatters' a really old club
formed in 1885 ! & "The 1st professional club in the South of England" !
Kenilwoth rd has been their 'home' since 1905 (3 years before sHudderz were even formed )
Luton Town 4-3 FC Halifax Town

hard luck SHAYMEN
That was almost a real good away win...sadly we come away with nothing.
terrific effort all the same.
Hope we can muster a few more contributory comments eh Ken !

Suppose that's why they are unbeaten at home
At least they played to win the game though which provided a very entertaining game
Well we got the one win for West Yorkshire, Bradford City!

Good old Bantams eh ,
6,500 at Luton, that's impressive,
just over 3 thou at table toppers Cam Utd,
& 2,200 at Chester.
not sure they will turn out, but after that exciting attempt,
the Shaymen deserve 2 thou v Nuneaton next week.
If you are reading this Champers !
You OK mate ?

Shame it's a Tuesday night game at the Shay. Would have been nice to have a home game next Saturday, especially with it being the International break (I think)?

71st place finish for Duzza out of a field of 72 players! What can you say apart from, you shoulda gone to see the Shaymen
A more positive day for 'FCHT' who featured in a 2-2 draw, although letting a 2 goal lead slip has to go down as 2 points dropped I'm afraid!

It's a laugh eh Ken.
give 'em a nudge...
Come on FCHT & Duzza !
lets be having match reports from both of your 'exploits'
Also guys.
Any info from Luton by any mates who actually did go to kenilworth rd ?
On face value, It seems the Shaymen made a real good go of it.

Blame the Duzza for no match report from Luton, we couldn't change his mind even on Friday night after a few pints. Hopefully it will be another 3 points tomorrow night down the fortress Shay!!
