For me the 2 finest Central midfielders to ever play in the premiership.Their abilities are so much better than the rest its like Messi,Ronaldo generation with daylight separating them from the rest.Awesome titans who I was fortunate to watch in their finest years but like Messi and Ronaldo one must be considered better than the other.
Its a very subjective topic as united fans will say Keano and Arsenal fans will chose Viera so this is where I would appreciate rival fans in one word to chose the guy they believe was the greatest.Lets forget about the individual personalities of both players as Keano is hardly popular even in Manchester but purely football terms.
Some interesting facts about the 2, Viera is a portuguese surname as his mum is from Cape Verde.Keano was once punched by Clough for messing up in an FA cup game, was relegated with Forest and almost signed for Blackburn before Fergie picked up the phone(damn you Fergie).
Patrick Vierra-1,93m,17 year professional football career,45 goals, played for Cannes moved to Milan as a youngster, signed for Arsenal, Perez tried to sign him twice for Real but eventually moved to Juve before moving to Inter and ending his career at City.
Honours-1 Sierra title AC Milan,3 premiership titles, 4 FA Cups,1 Sierra A title with juve,4 Sierra A titles with Inter Milan, 2 Super Copa italiana with inter,1 FA Cup with City,1 world cup medal 1998, 1 Confed Cup and 1 Euro medal in 2000.
Club football in Europe was a disappointment both at Arsenal and Inter. Has a Europa league final appearance and nothing of note in the champion’s league.
Roy Keane-1,78m, 17 year professional football career,57 goals, played for Cobh Ramblers, Nottingham Forest, Manchester United before ending his career at Celtic.
Honours- 7 premier league titles, 4 FA Cups, 1 Champions league , 1 Intercontinental Cup medal,1 Scottish league title, 1 Scottish league Cup medal.
Probably edges Viera in Premier league terms but did absolute rubbish internationally for a player of his ability. Now before anyone says he plays for Ireland, Greece won the Euros for fecks sakes and Ghana made quarters and would have made the semis was it not for Suarez.
So whos your daddy? Im a big fan of Viera just his playing style, the long leg tackles and through passes but Keane was great at moving the ball and scoring important goals.
Viera for me, achieved way more in his 17 years of football.
Roy Keane vs Patrick Viera, whos the daddy?

Someone should do a most commonly mis-spelled XI, with Vieira and Wilshere taking up the centre midfield slots.

I see Vieira fairly often, lives just around the corner
Very polite seems pretty chilled

youtube videos? That's how we now decide who is a better footballer? Catch a grip.
Vieira was a more aesthetically pleasing footballer than Keane. That's the only area that he comes out on top against Roy.

Aesthetically pleasing?!?! That's a new one.
its a very strange phenomenon, but a lot Man Utd fans just refuse to accept opposition players are better than theirs.
To me its so obvious that Vieira was better, he had the strength, combative and dominating presence of keane, mixed with skill, technique and finesse of an attacking midfielder, he was the epitome of box to box
Honest answer, do you think Keane was a better holding midfielder than Makelele?!?!

thats a good question but for me keane everyday. The thing with Keano is presence. He had it.If refs were afraid of Fergie, players were scared of Keano.Even Vieira, who is a good 20cm taller and probably stronger never really liked to engage him, not because he was scared of him(Vieira was a bit of a hot head even in italy) but just out of respect.
Football wise its almost a no contest but I admire Keanos character anmd leadership such that Im willing to put him in the same bracket.
They are the finest center mids by some distance.
Yaya,Essien, Ince,Gerrard,Makelele,Robson deserve a mention aswell.

Keane was a great, combative footballer and a great asset to ManU - but there's little to admire about his character.

No it's not.

I'm not one. I think Bergkamp was a better player than Cantona. Henry was better than Ruud. And at the peak of his powers Pires was better than Giggs.

Yet Keane still scored more goals than Vieira? Keane eclipsed Vieira when it came to combativeness and dominating presence and anyone who thinks Keane offered little going forward didn't watch him very much.

Hunting, watched them and enjoyed both, shows that BOTH clubs are missing that type of player tbf
I am not the blinkered type of fan (way too old!) and I still think Keane was "better" but to define "better" is the tough part.
If you asked me who was a better player, Henry of RVN I would say henry but there can be no debate that Vierra and Keane were amongst the best at what they did

Patriach, I was with you until you said Pires was better than Giggs at their peak, no danger imo
That said we are back to opinions, football is not an exact science allowing us to give opinions (ok>
