Well this is one of those times where there isn't a wrong answer...
you'd be happy with either one in you side...
and a greedy sod for wanting both.

Now before anyone says he plays for Ireland, Greece won the Euros for fecks sakes and Ghana made quarters and would have made the semis was it not for Suarez.
=========================================

So? Just because Greece won the Euro's, Ireland have no excuse for not winning it?

Comparing Vieira and Keane internationally is pretty unfair on Keane, Vieira played with the likes of Zidane, Desailly and Henry whereas Keane had his namesake upfront as the star player.

problem here Chris is Kaene copuldnt even qualify for International tournaments.International football is in 2 ways, you first qualify then you try to win the thing.I can understand the defence for Giggs as Wales had pup players(Still has) but qualificatiuon is just a matter of organisation and desire.

worse players than Keane have dragged their teams to international tournaments. His international career is just pants.

Perhaps but that could go either way. Did George Best even go to a tournement finals?

Is there any reason why you call the Italian league Sierra A?

posted on 14/11/13

Probably edges Viera in Premier league terms but did absolute rubbish internationally for a player of his ability

-------------------------

are you basing that on them not qualifying for tournements(which they did btw) before keane walked away from the team, did you watch every ireland game keane played in? or are you one of those fans that tries using the same logic about messi saying he cant be truely great as argentina do fack all in the world cup, the international stage whilst a great specticle is not the pinnicle of football in terms of quality

@United_kaz (U9943)

I rate Messi actually. And I would never use his international career to demean his club football achievements, doubt anyone can.

thing is Vieras international career is just way better than Keanes and I just pointed that out.Excuse me for expecting better of Keane as an international player but that is in no way to try to bring him down.Thing is a good international career always adds to the gloss. When you compare Scholes with Zidane, you cant help but note what Zidane achieved internationally.
same with platini!

Keane dragged Ireland to WC 02 (even if he walked out). He won games almost single handed. I loved Viera but I'd choose Keane over him all day long. I'm irish btw.

Keane was absolutely immense in the 2002 World Cup Qualifiers and led his team to qualification from a group which included Holland and Portugal, culminating in a famous victory against the Dutch at Lansdowne Rd. A match in which Roy Keane was simply outstanding.

But obviously he never played in the World Cup and didn't play for Ireland again until his career was on the wane.

Anyway, comparing two players international careers when one of them played for probably the finest French team ever assembled and the other for Ireland is just completely stupid.

thing is Vieras international career is just way better than Keanes

-------------

but thats the problem, you choose viera(france) vs keane(ireland) career comparision using international teams during a time when france were at their best, ireland have never been a power in world football, its like saying george weah wasent as good as klinsmen in the 90's and using the argument because germany were winning more things than liberia as a argument, i watched alot of keanes matches for ireland and it wasent because of him that they were poor for alot of his career

nobody compared the 2, because there is no comparison at all.I simply mentioned Vierras international achievements, and highlighted Keano's non achievements.

Lets ignore their international careers then cos it seems to be distracting people from the original intention of the article.

In terms of pure footballing ability, Vieira win hands down, the way he use to lob the ball over midfielders in the center of the park was unbelievable.

Keane was probably a better leader, but everything Keane could do with a football, Vieira could do but better

People will say thats a biased opinion but its not, its just the truth.

I get where you're coming from but the example you used is not the best as George Weah won World Player of the year, while Klinsmann never did

Likewise if Keane won WPOTY and Vieira never did, it would be a foregone conclusion that Keane was better, i doubt any United fan would even listen to anyone arguing otherwise

Fortunately Vieira won a few titles

the thing with Pat, it wasnt just his strength, tackling, he was soo graceful on the ball. The way he turned defence into attack in one single turn is what sets him apart from the rest.

Im a big fan of Keane but Viera and Rikaard are the most graceful center mids I have had the honour to see play.

I know where you're coming from, but its not that straightforward, Cannavaro won WPOTY but i dont think he's a better defender or player than Rio who never won it!
Henry created and scored more goals than Ronaldo in the premiership(ratio) and it was a farce that he was never crowned WPOTY.
Ronaldo is a pheneomeno player but i doubt anyone apart from United fans would consider him the premierships greatest player.

Drogba, Scholes, Gerrard, Lampard are examples of players who i would consider greater premiership players than Ronaldo.
Doesn't mean they are better, but they had better prem careers imo

again we will have to disagree, i agree though his herioc wc performances shouldnt have been enough to win that(a case of international performances being overpraised), something to remember with the original viera/keane debate
